We had a great fishing season on the FV KALM SEAS

Caught a lot of fish in & around Boston harbor & some really big Bluefin Tuna offshore-Cape Cod.
Unfortunately our season has come to an end and the boat was cleaned and prepped for our haul out.
Big thanks to all our guest that came out with us and we hope to see you again in 2025.

October commercial tuna quota open and KALM SEAS with another fish to market

Very good week for Leo & I on the tuna grounds.
Went 2 for 3 landing 2 jumbo tuna
1st one was 112” 701 pounds
2nd was 101” about 500 pounds.
Both fish went to market for sale & hopefully will see decent $ for both
Also won some prize $ for finishing 3rd place in the bostonbluefunclassic.
Finished in 7th place out of about 100 boats entered in the Green Harbor Tuna tournament
We will be back at it this week for more.

I’ve been really lacking on posting reports & pictures (actually haven’t taken many pictures)
Fishing May-June was good and the boat had been out quite a bit.
July has been even better, both for fishing and bookings.
Lots of fish & happy clients.
Had long time repeat clients, The Doyle family out once again.
Their dad John started booking trips with us 18-20 years ago with his sons and while John is longer with us I know he was looking down on us and watching his sons catch lots of fish !

Another family out today catching a bunch of fish 29” - 42” with countless 32-36” fish that had to be released.

A few more weeks till Leo gets back from being on the ship since April, then besides catching lots of stripers, we will be gearing up & filling the big fish hold with bluefin tuna !

Ice machine is running for the 1st time this year & filling with ice.
The meat grinder is ready to make chum.
The freezer is on ready to fill up.
Boat is in our new slip @ Baypoint Marina in Quincy Ma.
This fish are in the harbor.
It’s time to fish !

So we had our new engine commissioning Monday April 8th and couldn’t be happier with the results !
Pretty confident in saying we will be one of the fastest Downeast boats in the Boston Harbor charter fleet.
An easy 22kt cruise or 24 kts if we want to push the red lever a bit more forward and burn a bit more fuel.
Boat topped out @ 28.5 knots.

Boat is back out of the water & home for a few additional things done like the prop being tweaked a bit more and I decided to add a hauler to haul our anchor for when we tuna fish which Leo plans to do a lot of !!!
The boat should be back in the water Monday.
A few shake down trips planned to make sure everything is good and probably a crew/friends & family haddock trip before we start our charter season.

Getting real close to starting the new engine for the 1st time.

Should be in the water for sea trial in another 8-10 days.

We are make good progress with our repower.
Motor & gear is fitted in place & waiting on parts to continue.
The helm in the wheelhouse will be far less busy with a clean slate to lay out the new gauges & eliminate all the unnecessary switches & gauges from the past.
With an additional 100 horsepower we estimate we are going to have one of the fastest Downeast boats around Boston, cruising 21-22 kts and topping out @ 30kts.

After a very disappointing early end to our fishing season last august with a major engine failure, Leo & I are hard at work removing the old Volvo 430 horsepower diesel & are in the process of replacing it with with a brand new 530 horsepower FPT (Iveco) diesel engine.
In the addition 100 horsepower we are shedding unnecessary weight & will be re-working our prop which all should add up to more speed along with modern clean running & fuel efficient technology.
We are hoping/planning for an early April launch for sea trial to commission the new motor and plan to start our fishing charter season April 15th for haddock/ground fish, come May haddock-flounder- striped bass, come June giant bluefin tuna trips
