The child handprints fascinate me. What was the occasion? The ceremony? The event? Love that the children were a part of it. Divided into sections, the children had thier own section. Will we ever understand it? Check down in the photo list for the smallest handprint I could find. Amazing.

Last night in the desert.....
I just needed this so badly.
It was a great hike even through the rough spots.
That's why we added the "Adventure" part to our name. Always epic, always a Shadow Wolf Hiking Adventures trip. 26 years, still killing it.

These folks were super great about getting us in and at a great price so we could work on the jeep. Hose replacement and new clamp didn't get it, trying an extra clamp and getting ready to test it. I'm for some JB weld if this doesn't work. Lol.
It's a long way home to be dealing with this. Wish us luck!

Made it out of the canyons this morning. Limping the jeep along till we get a new radiator hose. Another great hike on the books! I'll sort and upload some pics once we get the jeep fixed. Then back to Hellinois.

On our way to the canyons. Of course we're stuck on I70 west of Denver. Should still make first camp tonight near the ranger station so we can check in first thing and get a jump on tomorrow's day hike.
Then we jump in and don't come out till we finish this canyon system. Been on our list to finish this one off to the river. Stay tuned!

Getting ready for late September Hike, plans changed, we adapted. This year is going to be different, and difficult. We're going to finish off a canyon we've been hiking and mapping for 26 years off and on with other canyons.
We have a little over 10 Miles of it left, not including sides. That's 4 to 5 days in canyon with exploration time. 5 miles per day or a bit more. Doesnt sound like much, figure in ups and downs, backtracks, wall outs, 10-15 per day, We explore a LOT! Time to put this one to rest.
For reference, this canyon is 60 some odd miles not including sides. We've done all thecsides as well. This last strip is 11 miles, add the sides, well over 30 miles. We'll get what we can, this trip.

America Strong! Vote Kennedy 2024. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr is our hope and change. Break the 2 party stranglehold and stop voting out of fear that the guy you hate is gonna win. Vote for a real win.
Break the industrial machine chains on America. Get big Pharma out of our government. Vote for clean air, clean food and water. Vote to restore SS to sustainability. Stop schedule F. (That's some Hi**er s**t right there). Stop Agenda 2025, restore women's rights. There is only one solid choice.
There is a reason they are keeping him out of tge debates. They want you to keep fighting each other. I want us all together. America Strong!

We're about 3.5 months from our next hike. Didn't get a spring hike this year. I'll be contacting those that were interested. We have a set plan this year. We're returning to a semi well known canyon to remap some not so well known Rock art panels that 90% of hikers miss. Then we're headed South towards the San Juan. (Backpacks required) There is a section of one canyon we have never completed. But we will be going by some killer sites we mapped along the way. Aho!

The first picture is from 1998 or 2000, the second picture is from 2009. THIS is why I will not disclose locations. When I first started hiking this area in 1998, There were very few paths to this site, it was not well known. There was no internet and no GPS readings. Only paper maps.
This alter was completely intact in 2000. It was so old that the sandstone had formed a seal around where the rocks were connected and on the ledge base it sat on. By 2009 some stupid idiot had knocked it over.
By 2020 it was completely gone, some other idiot had rolled it off the ledge it sat on.
Yes, the internet can be a great thing, it also can be a destroyer when the info falls into the wrong hands. Do NOT share locations please!!! THIS is what happens when novice tourist go to our sacred sites.
Shadow Wolf Hiking Adventures has coordinates to over 500 sites in this area, and we will never give them out.

This is a great panel. Parts of it I believe to be pre-Anasazi, early basket maker and some it prior to that time frame because of the Patina in some of the carvings. Parts of this panel are extremely old. I will not give up it's location. If you know it, you know it. Please don't say.

This one I find very interesting as the art is in red clay stuck to the rock. No Paint, no pecked in images. It's a small little site tucked up under a shallow overhang.

We were lucky enough to see Moon House before it was roped off. These are from 2008. There is a section of rock above the left part of the ruin by the bright snake they are measuring for movement. One day this amazing site will be destroyed by that rock. Enjoy the tour! The inner rooms behind the front wall are in amazing condition.

Revisit to a special panel. This is a sacred site to me. I buried something near here many years ago. And it's still here. My Dad wanted to come here, but his bad heart wouldn't let him. His spirit is with me when I hike here. He's here with me.
