Hello everyone! I just returned from Italy a few weeks ago on a Globus tour. We were on the Italian Tapestry tour and it was a fantastic trip! We went from Venice to Florence to Siena to Rome to Sorrento and then from there we saw Pompeii and a trip to Capri. Best thing to do before you book a trip is to check your passport expiration date.
We all know the passport woes - 18 weeks!!! If you haven't gotten your passport back and the trip is around the corner or just realized it expires before the trip trying to get through for a last minute appointment has been impossible. I got the email below from my congressman and you can also contact your senator. It looks like you will need to fill out a privacy authorization form but this is the best way for you to get your passport quickly. You will need to figure out who your congressman and senator are and contact their office for assistance.
We recently had better luck with a senator - the congressman said there were no appointments available. They are starting get overrun with requests as well. Hopefully this will turn around soon but until then…put your congressman or senator to work for you!!!
Reminder!!!!! Schengen countries are 3 months not 6 so it may make more sense to wait on sending in that passport!!!!! Check each countries requirements and make sure you cover both the entry and exit country if they are different.

St Martin is beautiful!! The island is beautiful and safe! No Covid restrictions anymore!! We also went to Anguilla on a catamaran excursion and it was paradise!! Secrets St. Martin needs some tender loving care and renovations. Since they were hit by a category 5 hurricane in 2017 they have been struggling and then Covid hit. Once this hotel is updated which is now owned by Hyatt, it will be beautiful!!

Boarding Passes: To Scan or Not to Scan?
Travel has been hustling and bustling again and just when you think you are getting back into the groove TSA throws us a curveball. We all know the procedure, as you approach TSA you have your boarding pass and your ID ready and in-hand for the TSA agents. I know I personally have been thrown for a loop since resuming travel as several airports I’m being told you should have that put away. I have gotten accustomed to only providing my ID at the Milwaukee airport as that is my home airport, but it isn’t the same everywhere.
I happened on this article that I thought all travel advisors should be aware of, for yourselves and your clients. Now if I could only get all travel advisors to read this Buzz then my work would be done! (Ha ha)
The article is TSA no longer scanning boarding passes at these airports https://www.cntraveler.com/story/tsa-is-no-longer-scanning-boarding-passes-at-these-airports/amp. Apparently, they have deployed 1,621 credential authentication technology (CAT) scanners to 176 different airports. The article gives us an indication that there are some other new technologies in the works for even more efficiencies with Apple and American Airlines as well. Every simplification can make a difference for the hundreds of thousands that seem to want to travel right now after being stuck at home for far too long.
My advice though, and what I will always do, is to make sure that your boarding pass isn’t tucked too deeply. Technology is only good when it’s working as designed and with a glitch, the old process may still be the fallback.

Flying this summer is ROUGH!!! I feel like as a Flight Attendant I should attempt to share some tips to get you through airline travel for the foreseeable future. ✈️✈️
1. Things are not good..... if its less than 7 hours - DRIVE! I'm not kidding. There is nothing enjoyable about flying right now. On any airline. If you must fly, keep reading. 🚗
2. Download and use the app of the airline you are flying. You can do everything on it - get your boarding pass, track your bags, see your incoming plane, and change a flight. It sure beats waiting in the long line to talk to an agent! Trust me - Usually these apps will tell you a flight is cancelled before the crew even knows! 📲
3. Fly MUCH earlier than you need to - a whole day early if its important!! This week I saw many people miss important things like weddings, funerals, cruises, international connections, and graduations. The tears were very real, for very real reasons, and there was nothing I could do! If you have to be somewhere, spend the extra money, go a day early. Have a glass of wine and stay in a hotel, enjoy your night not being stressed while everyone else misses their events. 🍷
4. ALWAYS fly the first flight in the morning so you have all day to be rebooked if the s**t hits the fan. Yes, that means it might be a 3:00 alarm, but morning flights don't cancel nearly as often.⏰
5. This is not unique to this year, but keep in mind summer is thunderstorm season. A single storm can shut down a whole airport. We can't fly through them. Storms usually build as the day gets later. Book early flights! ⛈
6. Schedule long layovers - Your 1 hour layover is NOT enough anymore. 30 minutes, not a chance. 3 hours minimum. 🏃♀️🏃🏃♂️
7. What you see on the news is an understatement. We are short staffed and overworked. Not just pilots and flight attendants, but also ground crews. Without ground crews there is no one to park the planes, drive jetways, get your bags on/off planes, or scan boarding passes. This causes many delays that snowball throughout the day. Sometimes HOURS.(Another reason morning flights are best!) 👀
8. When flight crews get delayed we time out. We can NOT fly longer than 16 hours. Its illegal. So it doesn't matter if you have a wedding to get to, when we are done we are done. The way things are now, there are no back up crews, so when this happens your flight cancels. (Now you are starting to see why those morning flights are best!) 😴
9. Avoid connecting in Newark (Or any New York airport for that matter). It is literal hell. You have a 50/50 chance your flight will cancel or missing your connection. They have been cancelling flights at their starting points just to keep the planes out, because there just aren't enough people to manage the planes, so the gates stay full. Also the restaurants are expensive, it is not a great place to be stuck. 💩
10. Be nice. As stated above, we are overworked and tired. We will not help you if you are mean. No one cares that you are going to miss your cruise if you are an as***le. So even if we can help, we will save our help for someone nice. Tensions are high. Our patience is gone. If you make us mad - you will not be flying on our planes. We will leave you behind without a second thought, and laugh about you later. 🥰
11. Being drunk on an airplane is a federal offense, so don't overdo it. If you drink too much at the bar waiting for your delayed flight you risk not being allowed to fly at all. We are too tired to deal with your drunk ass when we have legitimate issues to deal with. 🍻
12. Get trip insurance if you have a lot of money invested. I hate the whole idea of this, but I also hate the idea of losing money. Example: I was working a flight yesterday that waited over an hour for a gate. A family of 8 missed their flight to Rome. The only flight of the day. They were going to a cruise which they would now miss. They were all crying, there was nothing I could do. (Also a reason to fly a day early!) 🛳
13. Flights are FULL. If you buy the cheap seats you will not be able to sit with your family. It says so when you purchase your ticket!! Flight Attendants aren't there to rearrange the whole plane just so you can sit with your family because you tried to save $100 on a third party website. 💸
14. Speaking of third party websites and saving money..... Like I said flights are FULL. If a flight is oversold, and no one volunteers to give up their seats, who do you think is the first to be bumped? You guessed it, the family that saved a few $$ by using sites like Expedia, Kayak, Hotwire etc. 🤷♀️
15. Pack smart. Don't be "That guy" Don't hold up boarding because you have your extenders open till they are busting and you can't figure out how to make it fit in the overhead. (Passengers are stressed too, they can be aggressive when boarding a delayed flight) 🛍
16. Take showers, brush your teeth, leave the perfume off, don't eat stinky food (caesar salad and tuna fish I'm talking to you!), and bring headphones. Trust me. These things sound basic, but add to stress on crowded planes. If you are stuck on the tarmac for 3 hours after a 4 hour flight, you will thank me for this. 💜
17. Bring a sweater if you tend to be cold. So tired of half naked girls asking me to turn the heat up. NO. Wear clothes!! Side note: If you dress like this and ask for heat, there's a chance I will turn the AC up. 🥶
18. Thats not water on the bathroom floor. For the love of God wear shoes to the bathroom!!! 🤮
19. Don't tell a Flight Attendant they look tired. We are and we know. You may cause us to ugly cry right there in galley. 😭

Another airline change. Frontier Airlines Charter has changed their weight allowance for check in luggage to 40 lbs. now. This will start on March 1, 2022. With Frontier charters you do receive a free personal item which goes under the seat in front of you. You would need to purchase a carry on if you would like one which goes in the bin above your seat.
Reduced Passport Renewal Wait Times
For the last 20 months, getting a new or renewal passport wasn’t easy and for most of us, it wasn’t fast.
Backlogs of nearly two million applications challenged U.S. passport offices in 2021.
But there’s some good news. The wait times have been reduced to about 11 weeks (from six months).
The bad news is that passport renewal fees just jumped by 18%. A renewal passport will now cost $130 (up from $110), and a new passport cost jumps to $165.
But one thing hasn’t changed. When it comes to travel options, having a passport opens up the world to you.
Plus, it’s good for 10 years, and that works out to a little more than $16 a year — the best travel bargain you could ever have.

Effective Thursday, January 13, 2022, baggage fees on ALGV’s Exclusive Nonstop Vacation Flights (ENVF) via Frontier Airlines will increase as follows: First checked bag: $75.00 (was $60.00) and First carry-on bag: $85.00 (was $70.00). Unfortunately, this increase was passed on directly from the airline. We encourage you to be sure your clients purchase their bags by January 12 if they are booked on Frontier ENVF flights, while current prices are still in effect in VAX VacationAccess. Baggage fees purchased directly through the Frontier website can be slightly higher

There will be a recommendation that passengers arriving in the US test again, but no requirement (mentioned Express Scripts will be setting up at international arrivals at US airports offering tests for purchase). There will be NO recommendation or requirement on a quarantine (said WaPo article inaccurate on this). The implementation date will be “early next week.”

Stayed at Secrets Riviera Cancun with full use of the Breathless Riviera Cancun! If staying at Breathless you cannot go to Secrets. Both are adults only resorts. Nice properties. Still remodeling at Breathless and will be even better soon. Great beach and the seaweed is under control here. Had a couple spa services which were amazing and went to Xplor Park! More information I learned about this property. It is surrounded by a nature preserve so the reef is protected which means no jet skis, skiing, catamarans and it is also not deep enough. So anyone wanting to do those things would need to go to the marina and the water sports area would provide that if booked with them. As of now, because of Covid, the nonmotorized water sports are not available because the company providing that service is not up and running completely yet. This would also be the issue I am assuming for other resorts.
I had a honeymoon couple go to Greece this month and they had a wonderful time. This is their email to me. So happy all went well.
The trip was awesome overall! We loved everywhere went and the weather was still great even though it was windy and starting to cool down towards the end of tourist season. The Lagos Mare Hotel closed the day after we left so it was only us and one other guest at the hotel since it was slowing down for the season. The excursions were perfect and loved them! The sights and sunsets were truly unbelievable and the food was great too. So glad we went and thank you for getting this setup for us! It was also very easy to transfer islands too and was quick.
COVID
Had no issues at all getting in to Greece using VeriFly app and there was nobody testing upon arrival for our group.
Had to get a test to come back which was quick and easy using the app too. Some restaurants required vaccine cards for indoor dining and needed masks for transfers and some stores, but generally fine.

We lounged around the last few days, the food at the resort has been fantastic! Have a reservation at the flying fishbone (downtown) tomorrow and the madame Jeanettes on Saturday. We did the submarine tour today and have a utv/snorkeling tour scheduled for Sunday.
The airport coming in was super great, the parking at O'Hare was the worst of it.
We do have a room booked in O'Hare upon our arrival back next Tuesday.
We roamed around to the shops local to the hotel, as well as in downtown Oranjestad. So friendly!
Wind is super wicked. Lol so we found a sunglass hut our second day.
Stores are closed throughout the mid day from 11ish-5ish. But doesn't get in the way.
It is seriously so fantastic!

My daughter and I had a great time in Mexico at the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres in the new area north of Cancun, Playa Mujeres! When staying at the Palace you are able to use the Riu Dunamar Resort next door and the water park for both kids and adults is in between the two resorts which is really nice. Beautiful property! There were 4 pools--2 swim up pool bars with tables and chairs in the pool, 1 activity pool and a quiet pool. The food, service, entertainment and rooms were fantastic. Everyone was so nice working on the property and very hospitable. We loved our experience here and would definitely go back. From this area you are able to go to the island of Isla Mujeres (been there 3 times) which is a very pretty island-- shopping, bars, restaurants, exploring around the island on a golf cart, Garaffon Park (sculpture park), one of the top 10 most beautiful beach is on this island. Also kayak or boating tour of the Rio Manati (10 minutes from the resort) in the Mayan Jungle where you are able to see crocodiles, monkeys, lizards etc... and then you go to a virgin beach called Isla Blanca. Of course a catamaran booze cruises are available, snorkeling and scuba excursions. You are about 25 minutes from Cancun if you wanted to go there. So lots to do. Here are some photos from our trip!
