As we continue to work with partners in Western NC, we are learning more and more about the resilience of these communities in the .
In this conversation with Mr. Terry Horn, Fire Chief in Ellenboro, he noted that "in some places the roads were cleared before we even got there." A testament of how local farmers take initiative of addressing community mobility infrastructure even before they turn to addressing hurricane damage in their own land.

Many of the WNC farmers collaborating with P1t are now accessible and eager to receive visitors. They need to earn income and they are eager to share their passion for farming and showcase their communities' resilience in face of disasters.

"Once we knew was going to be a really bad storm, our family sought refuge in the farm. We housed them in our vacation rental. Everyone across three generations pulled in to keep the farm running and our precious animals well-cared for.
We cooked communally and actually ate pretty well... we had to defrost our freezers because of the loss of electricity."

Many of the farmers we work with in the foothills are still busy with repairs and feeling a bit of survivors' guilt; but they are largely ready and eager to receive visitors.
