This cozy cabin was towed across Mooselookmeguntic lake in 1954 and reassembled by renowned Maine Guide Norman Roberts and his wife, Ella. There was no road to this area at the time, so Roberts cleared the land by hand, reassembled the cabin, created a unique gravity-fed water system from a spring on the mountain, and towed appliances across the ice in the winter to create this secluded retreat. M
uch of Roberts' hand-carved woodwork is preserved, as is the working, hand-built fieldstone fireplace and outdoor fireplace/grill. Despite the advent of phone and electricity to the area in the 1990s, Roberts' Hideaway remains a rustic retreat, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains on one of the best lakefront areas of Mooselookmeguntic lake. A sandy beach and dock is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and small motor or sailboats. The cabin is cozy, and perfect for vacationers that truly want to 'get away from it all.' At Roberts Hideaway, you can sit and watch the sun set over Saddleback and Bald mountains, listen to the loons laugh and get a true feeling how this rugged country must have been when it was first settled. We proudly boast no television, computers or videogames, though a dial-up connection via telephone is available if you need it. Many carriers also provide digital cell phone coverage to the area, allowing tethering via cell phone to the Internet for the computer savvy. We've also added a wall heater for chilly nights, a washer and dryer, microwave and other amenities so that you can rough it -- or not! And because this cabin was built to last the test of time, not the test of fashion, it is family and pet-friendly.
