One of our recent guests has the sweetest message about their stay in Red Cloud and I just had to share it with you all! "I have a story to tell and it starts with the fact that Doug and I have three nice girls. For Mother's and Father's Days they gave us a night out and we got to pick between Red Cloud, Superior or Orleans Nebraska. We looked at the two houses and the Orleans Hotel and we picked the house in Red Cloud. People rent these through vacation homes. We didn't expect much but the house was probably built by the same builder that built Grandma and Grandpa Rickersons. The house rents with the name The M House. The house had two rocking chairs on the front porch and a large garden. It was on Cherry Street at the south end of town and if you kept going south on Cherry, you would come to the cemetery. We saw the house had a door in the back porch floor to get into the basement. The dining room had a round table that had seven chairs. The house had the same windows as Rickerson's and k***s and bead board back porch ceiling. The house had a bedroom with two beds and a bedroom that held a king. I had my best night sleep in years. I loved the house and I loved being in Red Cloud.
My mobility slowed us up some but we went to the museum and a thrift store and drove around and went to a Farmer's market and we ate at The Palace. Doug ate prime rib that was bigger than his plate. If we had more time we would have gone to the County museum. Red Cloud is making a new hotel out of the first building north of Grandpa's old barbershop corner. It looks like it will be amazing. It will be called The Hotel Garber. We had this adventure back in August but I wanted to tell you. If couples went they would enjoy it. If women went together, they would enjoy it. I liked this little house and we will go again. If young couples took young kids the young kids could learn about small town living."

The Starke Round Barn is pleased to announce new hours for the 2021 season. Beginning July 2 through September 17 we will be open for tours from 1 til 4 on the first and third Friday afternoons. Unescorted visits are not allowed. The barn is located 4.5 miles east of Red Cloud , Nebraska on Hiway 136.
