Funny Story - How a simple job became a pain. I recently had to replace a broken toilet flush lever in one of our bathrooms. I had difficulty unscrewing the plastic nut on the old one to remove it. The more I turned it, the tighter it got. I double checked that I was adhering to the old tried and true method of “righty tighty” - “lefty loosey” to determine which direction to turn the nut. It finally got so tight that it stripped out and broke, so I just tore it out with my pliers.
Next, I began installing the new flush lever, and for the life of me, I couldn’t get the nut to thread 🤨 I started to get downright annoyed and couldn’t believe the engineer who designed this flipping gadget could be so stupid.
Then I got so frustrated that I actually pulled out the instructions and read them 😊. Did you know that on toilet flush levers, the bolt and nut are threaded BACKWARDS?! And it makes perfect sense, so the nut doesn’t unscrew itself eventually with every flush. So even though it doesn’t rhyme, toilet flush levers are installed “righty loosey - lefty tighty” 😂.
Since this installation took so much extra time and caused such undue frustration, I felt compelled to post this public service announcement. 😆
