n Shores is a proud Bicentennial Community. From the sun’s first glimmer over the Boca Ciega Bay until it slips into the Gulf of Mexico, the Town of Redington Shores beckons visitors and residents to enjoy its wide beaches, fishing, boating, pleasant parks, natural beauty, and quiet soothing relaxation. Midway between Clearwater to the north and St. Pete Beach to the south, Redington Shores is just 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport and professional football, hockey, soccer and baseball. In addition to the miles of white sandy beaches and spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico, Redington Shores is an accessible vacation destination offering something for everyone. You will find it all within your reach; whether it’s shopping, water-sports, recreation, golfing, boating, fishing, eco-tourism, professional sports, arts, culture, attractions or theme parks. Shelling is fun along our Gulf of Mexico Beaches. Some 2,500 people call Redington Shores home (note that the correct spelling is not Reddington Shores), while several thousand more spend all or part of the winter here, some for a few days, others for several months. Home may be a beachfront condominium, a beach house, a cottage, an apartment or maybe a home on a quiet street.

Independence Day is a cause for remembrance and celebration. Unfortunately, celebratory fireworks can literally frighten birds to death. To make our beaches safer for birds:

Do not use personal fireworks on or near the beach.
Pay attention to signs and barriers and walk safely outside the roped offsections of beach.
Keep your pups off the beach.
Notify beach stewards if you see eggs or nests outside the roped-off area.
Dispose of trash in designated receptacles to keep the beaches clean.
If you see a beach steward, ask questions! We love talking about Florida’s native bird species.

Headed to the beach? If you notice some discolored water, it’s likely Trichodesmium, a blue-green algae found in tropical and subtropical waters. It’s part of a patchy bloom that moves with the wind and currents. The strain found in Florida is NOT known to be harmful to people or marine life. The County is monitoring.
