It sure is good to be back at the Oregon coast! Looks like it’s shaping up to be a great mushroom season. Trent and I decided earlier this year to make the PNW our full time residence! We’ve been on a pilgrimage from WI to OR and back for the last 3 years every spring and fall. While we will dearly miss the WI Northwoods and our midwestern friends, it was becoming too much to manage. Neither place truly felt like home. We are so thrilled to put down some permanent roots and just relax for a minute 😎 Hope to see more of all you CA, OR and WA friends this season!

Has anyone out there pickled lobster mushrooms? Pros/cons/ thoughts? We’ve pickled lots of shrooms but this is the first time for lobsters. Can’t wait to try them!

Restorative day in the coastal rain forest with all our favorites! There is always something to find on the Oregon coast. Now crafting a beautiful green curry chock full of freshly foraged fungi. Yum!

Siuslaw National Forest commercial matsutake permits already on sale! As of this am (8/30/24) 56/100 have been issued - $250. Personal use is 6 mushrooms per person, per day. What a wonderful last day in Romania! The mushroom season is early this year, just in the knick of time for us. Locally in Sacele, in Hungarian, chanterelles are called the fox mushroom - roka gomba - and the porcini, the bear mushroom - medve gomba. A friendly fox stopped for a hello and a headshot on our way home. Thanks to Sanyi and Amalka for sharing their local knowledge of fungi with us and to for always being the guy who puts people together 🙏 🍄❤️ Until next time friends!

We have a new map interface this year! One map includes all Modern Forager rated western fires, all fire perimeters in the entire Continental US, Stewardship maps (timber cuts, etc) for the Lower 48, and British Columbia perimeters (Alberta, Yukon, NW Territory later when available). Layers include 4 base maps, morel probability, burn severity, forest type, MVUM routes, current snow depth, and land ownership types.
