What a wonderful last day in Romania! The mushroom season is early this year, just in the knick of time for us. Locally in Sacele, in Hungarian, chanterelles are called the fox mushroom - roka gomba - and the porcini, the bear mushroom - medve gomba. A friendly fox stopped for a hello and a headshot on our way home. Thanks to Sanyi and Amalka for sharing their local knowledge of fungi with us and to for always being the guy who puts people together 🙏 🍄❤️ Until next time friends!

We have a new map interface this year! One map includes all Modern Forager rated western fires, all fire perimeters in the entire Continental US, Stewardship maps (timber cuts, etc) for the Lower 48, and British Columbia perimeters (Alberta, Yukon, NW Territory later when available). Layers include 4 base maps, morel probability, burn severity, forest type, MVUM routes, current snow depth, and land ownership types.

Quiche - a wild mushroom belly hunter’s dream food. So easy to showcase your finds in the most delicious combinations. This baby is packed with yellowfoot, trumpets and eggs infused with Oregon white truffles (thank you to Isa! ). I was curious to see if the truffled eggs would overwhelm the other two more delicate flavors. They did somewhat, but I’m still catching the trumpets. Certainly not complaining however. So tasty and super easy to make. Crust from the grocery, 4 eggs, 1 cup half and half, 1/4 tsp of salt and pepper each, 1 cup any cheese or cheese combo and then anything else u want!! Matsutake, Gruyère, Dungeness crab / chanterelle goat cheese bacon and shallots are a few favorites - what do you throw in your quiche creations?

Pre, post and during SOMA Camp shenanigans. Great food, friends and mushrooms! Black trumpet ice cream on caramelized brioche and chanterelle, chicken khao soi with pomelo salad were just a few of the foodie highlights. Not to mention a late season Oregon coast matsie, an inspiring Lino cut class, a coupla crazy eyes and stunning soon to be memorialized shadow boxed CA mushrooms. Love this community and these people 🍄❤️
