A very faint Aurora made an appearance low on the northern horizon for around 30 minutes. It was not visible to the naked eye but, I was able to capture this photograph with my ISO turned up to around 2000 and a long exposure shutter of around 20-25 seconds - Enjoy this photograph from a very peaceful and quiet To***co Valley, Rexford, Montana.

A beautiful evening as we head into Rendezvous Days weekend. The Aurora peaked out for over an hour last night. With the naked eye, while difficult to see, you could catch a glimpse of green/purple but, a long exposure really captures its intensity through the clouds. Enjoy a view of the night sky in the To***co Valley with the snowcapped peaks, Lake Koocanusa and the Aurora.

What an AMAZING display of colors and light last night; one of the best Aurora's to come our way in a while. I didn't think, with the cloud cover, that anything was going to develop but, I stuck with it and was able to capture these shots between 11pm and 1am - Here's a capture from above Rexford, MT - Enjoy!

Sunset Glow on Lake Koocanusa - Here's a panoramic capture from this evening's sunset through the rain. Picking up the dramatic colors from the West, along with a shot due North and also picking up colors in a rain shower to the Northeast. This was around 9:46pm tonight (6/20) from Rexford - Enjoy!

nd the Aurora says "Hello To***co Valley" (Rexford, MT) - A little crescent moonlight from the left, shooting stars and a beautiful Aurora dancing in the night sky around midnight - Enjoy this as much as I enjoyed capturing it. Late night April 16 into the first few minutes of April 17th. This is a panoramic of six photos!

For a road trip consider the National Bison Range in Charlo, Montana. Established by President Roosevelt in 1908 it provides an amazing ecosystem to explore. Open daily from dawn to dusk. I would normally provide a photograph of a magnificent bison but, here's a photograph that I captured of a Pronghorn Antelope out on the range. Pronghorn are the second fastest animal on the planet (60mph) just behind the cheetah (61mph). Although second in top speed - it can sustain its top speed for a much longer distance. Enjoy!

Here's a recent photograph of Trumpeter Swans on Bass Lake just south of Eureka, Montana (a few miles from The Montana Cabin). This was an exciting moment as Swan 3@4 (with the Green band) was born in 2016 in the Summer Lake Wildlife Area of Oregon. It has been seen traveling in Oregon, Kimberly, British Columbia, the Flathead Valley to our South as well as the To***co Valley.

This Restoration Project is a partnership between The Trumpeter Swan Society, The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

This is the FIRST time that this Swan has been spotted pairing up with a mate. The Trumpeter Swan Society is hopeful that this means a continuation of growth for this beautiful species.

I love how in this picture the two swans came together in the shape of a heart. Enjoy!

Last nights (3/29) sunset over the To***co Valley - NW corner of Montana outside of Rexford/Eureka - Setting us up for a gorgeous day today (3/30)! The colors may have only been there for a few minutes but, they were absolutely breathtaking with the snow flurries against the mountains on the East side of the Valley - Enjoy the colors!

Sometimes unplanned opportunities are the best. This was a photo from Rexford, last night, around 3a.m. Our puppy acted like she needed to go out around 3.am. so I begrudgingly got up and took her out. I went out with her and she promptly sat down and looked to the North. I was a little bit perturbed but, then I looked North. Even though my night vision had been destroyed by our automatic outside light - there it was (I thought). I grabbed my camera and took a quick shot and, it was confirmed, there was the Aurora!!! One important note - I ALWAYS have my tripod up and my camera focused to infinity and starting settings in place, just in case this happens. I felt so fortunate to capture this opportunity. Settings - ISO 3200, Aperture f/2.8, Focal Length 24mm (24mm-70mm f/2.8 lens), Exposure 25 seconds. This is a pano shot combination of four (4) photos. Last night was forecast at a 4.0 KPI and our next forecast opportunity is TH (3/18) and FR (3/19) where the KPI is currently forecast at 5.0 (although, it looks like we may have cloud cover). Very thankful for the opportunity to capture this. Enjoy! PS Whoever was up at 3a.m. and traveling Madden Lake Road at that hour of the night - Thank You - You helped enhance my photo with light trails and light painting of the trees - It was perfect!
