💙 STANDING WITH DJ 💙

Sheriffs, deputies, and law enforcement leaders from across Virginia came together in Richmond yesterday to honor 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a courageous young man battling cancer with a dream of serving in law enforcement.

Organized by Frederick County Virginia Sheriff's Office Sheriff Lenny Millholland, the ceremony was held at the Office of the Attorney General and marked DJ’s first statewide swearing-in in Virginia. Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares joined agency leaders in celebrating DJ’s mission, which has taken him to more than 3,000 law enforcement departments nationwide.

Virginia proudly stands among them. The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association is honored to have supported this unforgettable moment for DJ and the law enforcement community.

🚔 Real Tools. Real Results.

Thanks to license plate reader (ALPR) technology, King George County Sheriff's Office deputies helped stop a stolen vehicle and arrest four suspects tied to a string of thefts in Virginia and Maryland.

This is exactly why VSA supported ALPR legislation during this year’s General Assembly. ALPRs help deputies across the Commonwealth respond faster, work smarter, and keep communities safer.

🎤 Arlington’s Got Talent – and Heart

At the Arlington County VA Sheriff's Office, mental wellness isn’t a one-month effort. It's a daily commitment.

In a powerful display of self-expression and second chances, ACSO recently hosted Arlington’s Got Talent, a voluntary talent show for inmates that celebrated creativity, identity, and emotional well-being. Original poetry, music, and spoken word took center stage, reminding us that rehabilitation begins when people are seen for more than their circumstances.

💡 Chesterfield County is Leading the Way

When overdose deaths spiked, Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office Karl Leonard and the Chesterfield County Jail didn’t wait for someone else to act. Their HARP program, Narcan distribution, and EMS partnerships helped drive a 50% drop in overdose deaths, double the national decline.

This is what bold, community-based leadership looks like. We’re proud to see their efforts recognized in The Wall Street Journal.

Sheriff Sumption reminds all drivers of the importance of Virginia’s “Move Over” law. Drivers must change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside. This law helps protect those who protect us.

One year after his end of watch, the Charles City County Sheriff's Office honored Sgt. Floyd H. Miles Jr. with a special radio broadcast led by his stepson. His moving words reflected not only the loss of a deputy, but the absence of a father, mentor, and friend. We remember Sgt.
