After 95 years in business, it was time to move on to the next phase of life for the Story family who have served their customers and the Central Virginia Area with passion and care for the community.

While some things will change, much of what you have come to love and enjoy will not at Academy Bus; such as community, passion for the ground transportation industry, and working tirelessly to provide top-notch equipment and services for our customers and community.

In order to do that, all James River Transportation employees will remain with the company. That means you will still be able to speak with the same sales representative and request your favorite driver. We promise to deliver modern, clean motor coaches, professional drivers, and the best possible service to transport your group.

We are honored to announce that our James River Transportation Owner & President Stephen Story received a 2023 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Public Service Award. He was recognized for his “tireless dedication to promoting and testing the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety”.

Capping off Women’s History Month by recognizing one of the women who make James River Transportation great and celebrating all female employees who contribute to James River Transportation’s mission.

Diane Story Hall is the Vice President of James River Transportation in Richmond, Virginia, and serves on its board of directors.

Diane began working in the tour department for James River Transportation in 1976, shortly after the birth of her first child, Jason, who is now the company’s Maintenance Director. Her dad, L Woodrow Story, purchased the company the following year.

Diane became more active in the accounting office in later years, working with payroll and accounts receivable.

In the early days, when an employee needed something, they simply asked her dad and he would say yes or no. Together with her brother, Stephen, now President of the company, they developed a more structured environment, implementing an employee handbook and written job descriptions.

She now finds herself in the Human Resources Department for James River Transportation, still lending a helpful hand to the accounting office.

Diane grew up in a family with good moral values where integrity and kindness were very important. She looks for these qualities when hiring and keeping the great employees at James River Transportation. “We look for the good person first,” she says.

Outside of the office, Diane enjoys spending time with her family. From weekly “Sibling Dinners”, and traveling with family to spending time with her new great granddaughters. She also enjoys the outdoors and working in her yard.
