One of our biggest challenges after Hurricane Helene is the damage done to our roads at Camp. Many of our gravel roads were completely washed out and many of our paved roads were crumbled by the force of the water we received. You can see the damage done to the road below Bear Paw Hill here, with water ripping up pavement. Much of the pavement from Bear Paw Hill all the way down to the Barn has now been removed and will have to be replaced and repaved. The gravel road down Cumberland Hill was also hit very hard and washed out.

Many of you have asked and wondered what the past week has looked like at Camp and in our community. The ministries of Ridgecrest (Camp Crestirdge, Camp Ridgecrest and the Ridgecrest Conference Center) have been very active in supporting relief efforts and helping the community around us during difficult times.

Here are a few of the ways Ridgecrest has come alongside our neighbors this past week:
⁃ Serving warm meals to stranded motorists and others in the Ridgecrest community
⁃ Hosting daily water and food pickup
⁃ Hosting and housing 150 officers and responders
⁃ Delivering water to the local nursing home
⁃ Donating large food quantities to local restaurants who are cooking for the community
⁃ Going door-to-door with food, checking on our neighbors
⁃ Working around the clock to restore our water service for our properties and neighbors
⁃ Partnering with Montreat College for water distribution

Please continue to pray for our relief efforts and for ways to reach our community. Our mission statement is to impact lives for God’s glory and, even in the midst of chaos, we’re keeping that as our focus. If you would like to help in the meantime, please continue to give to the Ridgecrest Relief Fund!

Last week, an estimated 25-30" of rain fell in Black Mountain. Throughout Ridgecrest, there are multiple lakes and dams: at Camp Crestridge, Camp Ridgecrest and the Ridgecrest Conference Center. In the midst of the storm, we were praying that our dams would not give way and fail. Praise the Lord, they did not give way. All of our lakes overflowed and a few had water running over the top of the dam, but a total failure would have been an awful scenario. Our lakes are a mess and will require some work and clean up, but we're so thankful that the problems we face were not compounded by bigger issues with our dams. Hearts attuned.

Camp Family, we continue to be overwhelmed at the support you’ve shown over the past few days. The road ahead will not be easy, but the damages we’ve incurred can be replaced or fixed. Specifically, many of you have asked if there will be a time when you can come and help out in our efforts to clean up and rebuild different areas around our camps. First off, thank you for asking. The short answer is that we do not know yet. Currently, the needs of our community are a higher priority and much more urgent. Secondly, we don’t know when we will have consistent access to basic things like electricity, running water, food and gasoline.

Once we have consistent access to those things and the urgent needs of our community are met, we will have a better idea about ways you can help. If there’s a time when it’s appropriate and wise, and if you’re interested in physically coming to Camp to help with efforts, please fill out the following questionnaire, so we can get a better picture of what that work could look like and what resources, skills and equipment we might be able to use. In the meantime, continue praying for our community and consider supporting Ridgecrest through the Ridgecrest Relief Fund!

Camp family, thank you again for your continued prayers and support for Camp. Your prayers, generosity, words and kindness have encouraged us during challenging times. Now that the waters have settled some, we wanted to share some scenes from around our property because I know you’re curious to know what things have looked like. Please keep this in mind: although we are burdened for this property and the challenges we face, our focus is on the community around us. There are so many with far greater needs than the ones we face. We will be in touch about cleanup and rebuilding efforts at a later time but, frankly, that’s not where our heart, time, and efforts are focused right now. Pray for western North Carolina. Pray for first responders. Pray for continued rescue and relief efforts. We know the Lord is near to the brokenhearted.

Camp is a mess but our hearts are broken for the community around us. Please pray for our town, our first responders and the enormous challenge ahead for so many. For those asking how you can help, we have set up a Ridgecrest Ministries Hurricane Relief Fund that will help us address the new physical hurdles that are ahead as we repair washed out roads, clean up landslides, extract mud and debris, and recover from this new challenge that is ahead of us. Last night we ended Session 4 with a splash!! We had so much fun at our Last Night of Camp pool party!! 😆🥳🌊

Last day of Skills is for conquering fears!!! For the last two days, our Mountain Biking Skill have been taking flight off a ramp into the lake, and having a blast while doing it!!! 🪽🚵🏼‍♀️😆

Last night, our Roan and Bluerock girls got to party at Midnight Madness!!! We had so much fun swimming and dancing all night long!!! 🪩🌈🕺🏼✨

At our second Council of Progress, we get to celebrate our accomplishments from throughout the session!! Congratulations to our Village Award recipients, those who completed their challenges, and to the Bear Paws on the Crestridge Cup win!! We are so proud of our campers!!! 💚🤍

Ron said it best: "Best singing of the summer!" Our last Campfire Night was the loudest we've ever been!! No matter the weather, we always have the best time!! 🎤🎶🔥

Today during Sock War, campers help Shrek find Fiona with the help of a few friends!! Congratulations to the Orange Team for taking home the last Sock War victory of the summer!!! 💚🧡🧦

So... WHODUNNIT?? Today we searched for the thief that stole our delicious dessert!! Did our campers solve the mystery?? 🧐🕵🏼‍♀️🍰

This morning in Village Activites, our Hemlocks and Hawksbills went head-to-head in a LIP-SYNC BATTLE!!! Such great performances from both villages!! 🩵💛🎤🕺🏼

We went ALL OUT for our last Singspiration of the summer!!! What a fun way to end our Sunday!!! 🕺🏼🎤🥳

Last night, 21 of our Blue Rock girls were tapped out to participate in the Valor Challenge. This morning 8 of them were awarded with the newest rank of Valor!! We are so proud of all our Session 4 Valors and Trekkers and all that they have accomplished!! Congratulations girls!!! 💚🤍

Hooray for Carnival!!! We had the best time hanging out with our brothers at Camp Ridgecrest for Boys tonight!!! 🎡🎪🥳
