«In that place, in Medjugorje, where the Gospa appears, something happened to me that I had never experienced before. When I got there I felt beaten like a child. I sat on a bench and I could have stayed like that forever, it was great. It was the best moment of my life, I was blessed! In those circumstances I cried three or four times but I don't know why. On that bench it is as if I had been cleaned, as if a stone had been removed from my heart. It was then that I began to pray… but I was kind of wrong, I only prayed when I needed to, a little bit like everyone else. I had some of conflict in me… sometimes God helped me, sometimes not. Then I realized that we should always pray... since before I get sick I pray twice a day. But you don't have to say 'I want, I want...', but 'thank you, thank you...'.

The seer Mirjana tells that a year after the death of Pope John Paul II, while waiting for the moment of the appearance of the Virgin on the 2nd of the month, she noticed a pair of elegant leather shoes near the statue of the Virgin. After the apparition, Mirjana found out who the shoes belonged to. Mirjana testimonied that, after the apparition, she was approached by a man who had been a close friend of Pope John Paul II. He asked her not to share his identity. The man told me that John Paul II had always wanted to come to Medjugorje, but as Pope, he was never able to do so. So one day the man joked with the Pope, saying, "If you never get to Medjugorje, then I will go and take your shoes there. It will be as if you could have stepped on that holy ground." After the death of John Paul II, the man felt called to do exactly that. After the apparition, the man gave them to me, and every time I look at them I think of the Holy Father."

Mirjana keeps the shoes in a glass cabinet at the entrance of her home in Medjugorje.

Dear children,
With a motherly love I am calling you to,full of strength, faith and trust,look towards my Son.
Keep opening your hearts to Him and do not be afraid, because my Son is the Light of the world and in Him is peace and hope.
That is why, anew, anew I am calling you to pray for those of my children who have not come to know the love of my Son.
So that my Son, with His light of love and hope, may illuminate also their hearts; and you, my children, that He may strengthen and give you peace and hope.
