My photos from our truffle farm tour. The hunters were two very-well-fed Labrador Retrievers. After their short hunt (they hunt for 6 hours in winter when truffles are most plentiful) we had a tasting on baguette with sea salt-mmmm! Dogs were circling in case any were dropped! Wine was served from the winery next door. A farm in this region typically hunts truffles, makes wine and grows lavender. This farm had been in family for several generations.

Our day in Camargue, with wild white stallions (who are born black); Camargue cattle and pink flamingoes. We even got to the sea!

So 2nd day in Arles made up for the rotten first day. We had a great nights sleep and were off and running this morning. We had a great breakfast at the hotel (Think: France/croissants!) and spent the afternoon at Camargue, an area of Southern France between the ocean and Arles that is filled with Camargue wild cattle and white stallions, along with flamingoes. We did it in a 4x4 jeep with a family from Holland, where the top was open (kinda like yesterday on the train, if you read my story!) and Sandra, our guise, was wildly informative. We have fallen in love with their lemon sorbet and had a great dinner with best foccaicia ever!

Best item for travel ever known to man-the Tide stain stick. With limited luggage, I’m re-wearing clothes. So far I’ve spilled 3 things on the same pair of shorts-watermelon, pesto sauce and pen mark. Voila-all out!!

Ok, so our arrival into Nice, France was memorable! Easy flight from JFK (a little bumpy) and airport was easy at 8AM. Took a short (free) tram ride to the St Augustin train station, but couldn’t have made the 8:30 AM departure to Arles, so we had to wait for the 11:32 AM departure. PS. At least the French police security eye candy was nice guarding the station! No ac, and it felt like 100 degrees in the shade. No where to buy water where it within walking distance and the toilet was like a porta potty. Then I was told no refreshments on the 2 1/2 hour train ride to Marseille where we were to change trains. Can you say cotton mouth?! We ride about 1 1/2 hrs and the train stops. Then it starts reversing! We got on the wrong train! Those trains run like clockwork. This train was about 4 minutes before ours. So we go back to Cannes, the bigger train station, so we could get on another train. Next, we get on the train from hell, literally. No AC and the train was from the 1930’s - narrow, high platform with individual cars with 3 upholstered seats facing each other (like in the old movies). We finally found seats with 3 other girls. It was so hot, Jennifer took off her shirt and rode like that the whole way. My glasses couldn’t even stay on my face! I sweated from pores I didn’t even know I had! Finally in Marseille, we get in another hour train ride to Arles, but in AC comfort! Lovely, quaint Hotel Calendal served our showering needs in AC comfort. We are directly on the Roman ruins. Animals adventures continue today in Camargue Park at 2:30. Stay tuned!
