During this time of year, in addition to planning for the next boating season, we continue to visit our neighbors and pals along the Erie Canal 🎶
#TBT This was a great trip we took last week to the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse, NY! Part of this museum is housed in a building originally built in 1850 as a Weighlock Station along the Erie Canal. These weighlocks collected tolls on cargo boats to pay for the construction and maintenance of the canal. The 7 weighlocks along the canal collected $121 Million of tolls during their time of operation 🤯 Rochester, NY had the most western weighlock located just South of the Court Street Bridge on the East side of the Genesee River and the West side of the Erie Canal!
All the weighlocks have since been torn down, except for the one located in Syracuse, thankfully preserved for all to see and visit!
We highly recommend a trip to this museum to learn more about the canal and experience some fun & hands on exhibits. Maybe a trip here will hold you over until our boats get back in the water!
