Hi Fi Lounge

Hi Fi Lounge Located in the town of Brighton, suburb of Rochester New York, Hi Fi Lounge has evolved from a music store we started here in 1986, the CD Exchange.

In short we’re music nuts. The listening experience alone is our focus, we don’t do home theater, phones or video games — there’s plenty of outlets for those. Having built our reputation on a carefully chosen and graded music selection, that focuses on quality. We have applied that philosophy to our audio gear selection as well. On hand will be the superb, dual mono construction, Advance Paris A12, Integrated amplifier and My Connect 250, a very unique high end Pre/Amp/Streamer/ CD player. With gobs of power. See photo.
Hope to see you there ..Mark

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOZwDwXGM_s&t=780s I'll admit it, I do watch the Cheap Audio Man, even if I don't always agree with his um, methodology, at least he's honest. Notable here is that two of his best speakers of '24, I carry here, and am quite enthused about myself. The new ELAC B6.3 and The extraordinary Wharfedale Super Lintons.

It's finally here! The meaningless Cheap Audio Man Speaker of the Year Awards!!!Micca RB42x ii https://amzn.to/41lgU2s (affiliate)Elac Debut 3.0 https://howl...

A lot of the repair work we do for customers here, are units that were purchased on EBAY, or from random FB Marketplace sellers. Some of them from scammers who misrepresent, but many of them have been ‘serviced’ by people who know just enough to be dangerous, which is almost worse. Every single one these receivers in this picture on our for-sale rack, has been gone through by technicians with decades of experience. And when it comes to fixing vintage electronics, there’s nothing like experience. Parts are replaced where necessary, many times that includes parts that haven’t failed (yet) but are known to have high failure rates over time. Important calibrations like DC offset and idle current are adjusted where appropriate, and they are bench tested for distortion etc. And the kicker? When I look at the EBay prices, more often than not our stuff is the same or less. I think that makes a good case for buying local.

I actually had some trepidation about ordering the first non-Andrew Jones designed, Elac Debut.3s. Even after having seen a few glowing reviews, because frankly, the reviewers out there aren’t necessarily what they used to be. Although cosmetics are similar, they are a fairly major re-design. For one thing, Elac switched to an aluminum alloy tweeter, from the soft dome. One of the things I liked about the old Debut models was they might have been just a touch wooly, but they never got on your nerves. Anyway, I decided to order a couple pairs of the DB6 monitors, and I’m going to agree with the other critics, they are a genuine improvement on an already nice monitor. The high end is more articulate, but not at all glaring. They are legitimately more ‘open’ sounding than past Debuts. The low end isn’t the tightest you’ve heard, but has an extension and bloom that’s pretty damn impressive for a speaker this size . And the kicker? The list is $449 pair! Highly recommended if you’re in the market for something in this niche.

Desire is a perfectly normal human emotion. Especially if it’s due to a classic McIntosh 2100 power amp, which I just put on the sale shelf. Just refurbished with entirely new electrolytic capacitors, including the big filter caps. All output devices have been updated with Mac approved replacements, etc. This unit beats its published power spec @ rated distortion by a good bit as well.

Ricky Ford plays the Bop Shop Friday night 6/14. His '23 gig there was one of the best things I caught last year. I swear if this guy was born 10 or so years earlier, he would have been on the Blue Note label, and people would be paying as large sums for his first press LPs, as they do for Hank Mobley et al. Anyway, I'm not officaily promoting this, other than to say for Jazz fans, if you're looking for something to do, you won't be disappointed.

Something to be aware of when picking up a headshell.. Some time ago I ordered some generic-ish Chinese made 'shells, to save a few bucks. To the naked eye they looked pretty much the same as these Audio Technica headshells. But as I started mounting them, I noticed that on several of them the azimuth was significantly off, at the stylus. It turned out that the little pin that aligns them was slightly askew on the generics. That creates channel imbalance, tracking distortion etc. Moral of the story, it’s really worth the extra $5-$10 dollars to get the name brand.

Back in stock, Elac Carina FS247.4 loudspeakers. These don’t seem to get as much attention as some of the other Elac models, which has always puzzled me. They are a real stand out in a line that has had a number of nice designs. They have a really airy, non-fatiguing presentation, and a warmish, substantial low end that you rarely hear from a narrow tower like this. Elac is running a factory deal through June, stop in for details and a listen.. Also, kind of noteworthy, I have a pair of the best-selling Wharfedale Lintons at a substantial discount. My customer had these for a mere 6 months, and liked them enough that he decided to order from me, a pair of the $7k Wharfedale Dovedales, which are kind of Lintons on steroids. These come with the dedicated stands which are almost obligatory with the Lintons. They are in pretty much, flawless condition.. Thanks for looking, Mark
