Well the calendar says it is fall in upstate NY but the weather feels like July, at least for this week.  It is the ending of one season and the beginning of another.  Sometimes it feels sad, but there is some beautiful things about a new season and a hope for what’s to come. Well according to almost everyone including the “gram” fall is right around the corner and it’s time to get out the pumpkins!   I always loved fall until it involved return to school for kiddos.  Nothing is better than the relaxed days of summer and these gorgeous hydrangeas.  This is not Cape Cod but there are so many memories attached to them.  Hang on to these last few weeks of summer everyone.  It’s another 9 months before we see it again.  Have a great weekend!— Mamajoy

I walked into a rummage sale and these sweet pictures were right inside the door. I stopped and stared because they were the same prints that my mom had sent me as cards so many years ago when I was single and living in Boston.  I still have them fifty years later with her notes on them. And I walked away and didn’t buy them!  They would have been perfect for my wall of faces!  Why?????  How many times have you walked away and had regrets?  I have-too many times!   And then continue to think about it. 🤪 oh well there’s always the next sale! ~mamajoy

This is my new very small collection which has landed in my upstairs hallway. I have always drooled over walls. They are epic!  I imagine this collection will grow very slowly because I have a couple of rules about looking for them. I have to just find them in the wild and second I only will spend $5 or less.  So as you can see it will be awhile. Sometimes waiting is OK.  Happy rainy Wednesday everyone!  Mamajoy

When I was homeschooling and my kids were growing up, every Friday we would pile into the car with our neighbor and friend Muriel and hit all the garage sales. I would plan out the routes and she would get us there as everyone knows I have no sense of direction. For the last 7 years, Hauls & Smalls has carried on the tradition to hunt for vintage to sell at the Shops and now Etsy. I was thinking about this last Friday as we headed out with 2 tagalongs since school is already out. The little boys are now hunting for their own treasures and everyone definitely has their own idea of “treasure”.
Does little brass boxes for lost teeth and a large metal hook count?  To me, the real treasure is our time together. It’s priceless.

Spring has arrived in upstate NY. Leaves are on the trees, the dogwood and cherry trees are in full bloom and flowers will be planted as soon as the chance of frost has passed🤪. But the true signs of spring and maybe my favorite one is the pop up of garage sales. I’m excited to find the next treasures, hunt the flea markets and maybe go to my first auction. Anyone recognize this?  Half of Hauls & Smalls is on vacation. I have so many memories of vacations at the beach—-Cape Cod with my parents growing up and then with my own small children, living in Boston as a young adult , Myrtle Beach and now Anna Marie Island, Florida with my sisters. The ocean is magical, full of memories and different seasons of life.  So grateful for this week!  All that’s missing are thrift stores—-~Mamajoy

This is my view of my bedroom wall of women’s faces. My young grandsons are not fans(“because all of them are staring at you”) but I love each one for different reasons and what they remind me of. My latest addition is the oil painting of a young girl. The artist was born in 1917 and found in a basement of a house was full of very large framed portraits she had painted. I wonder if she knew her subjects and if her paintings were ever displayed publicly. I know I am going to enjoy looking at this unknown little girl painted by this unknown artist.

Time flies it’s almost the end of May already?!?! Recently I was trying or attempting to help my son with his homework on how to tell time/clocks...never realized how much the clock doesn’t make sense..the 1 equals 5 minutes and 30 is a 1/2 hour but also a 6 and who really knows 10 past 2 or quarter of...is it just me? Anyways this is my version of a brass pocket change catch-all pretending to be a “clock” which also doesn’t make sense but hey it’s some classic brass and that is all, Happy Tuesday everyone...k bye 👋🏾
