My story is not that different from many others, who are also woodworkers, yet it is still personal to me, and it all started about five years ago. I collect political memorabilia, and had a newspaper from 1940 that I wanted to have framed, because it was naturally an odd size, I was going to have to have a custom frame made. To my horror, as I was pricing custom frames on-line and in the local area, it was going to be hundreds of dollar! I really did laugh aloud when I was getting quotes, and thought this is ridiculous. So, I set in my mind that I can make a frame for the newspaper.
Here the real story begins, after spending countless hours on YouTube an Pinterest, researching the different techniques that are used to make frames, and the most common doβs and donβts, I was prepared. The frame I made, from pine wood with a black lacquer finish, still hangs in my office today, it is not the best thing that I have ever made, but I spent a fraction of the money as was quoted to me, plus the satisfaction that I made it. This started a role of making custom sized frames for myself, as well as friends and family. As the quantity of frames I made increased, so did my perfection and skill in making them.
After frames I extended, my new found talents, into making planter boxes, birdhouses, and cutting boards. In my Etsy and Pinterest searches I found items all the time that I thought were βcoolβ and decided to try making new items all the time. My little shop in the garage started growing in the number of tools that I have, as well as materials and inventory. I was over running my house with projects, which I didnβt need to keep.
