Have you checked out Whispering Cave Trail yet?

This is the newest addition to the Hocking Hills State Parks.

Whispering Cave is a short 1.5 mile hike off Hemlock Bridge Trail. The cave is the second largest in the park- first largest being Ash Cave, and boasts a unique acoustic feature, which allows someone to whisper on one end of the cave and the sound travels hundreds of feet.

We are fascinated by the history of this new attraction. Although the trail opened last spring, it’s really not all that new. Long-time visitors may remember the Gulf Trail, which contained parts of the Hemlock Bridge Trail, and was closed over 40 years ago, yet no one is certain why. After nearly 5 decades of neglect, this trail was reopened in 2017 and it was in curiously good shape considering.

You won’t be disappointed by the massive sandstone cliff, 105 foot waterfall, nearly 300 foot recessed cavern!

Do you love a good ghost story? Hocking Hills has plenty to offer!

Haunted Hocking is hosting a Hocking Halloween Campout October 26-28, 2018. Hocking Hills Hideaway is still available if you’re looking for a comfy place to retreat to following ghost hunting, and were not haunted so you can be sure you will get a sound night’s sleep!

Or, if you are looking to explore the paranormal sightings on your own agenda, here is a list of some of the local allures.

Old Man’s Cave Upper Trail: Richard Roe and his dog companion once lived in the cave long ago, they been sighted greeting visitors for over 100 years. Some have heard the dog howling deep in the cave at the dead of night.

Rockhouse Hotel: Where the current shelter house is now, once stood the Rockhouse hotel in the 1800’s. A young girl named Mary was found dead in her room and her spirit still roams the area.

Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve: Several Native Americans once called this area home and would rob traveling settlers and hide their plunder in the caves and rock formations. Several of the thieves were eventually caught and hung in a hollow. It is said that their shadows cane be seen roaming the trails here.

Old Logan Cemetery: Haunted by a girl in white.
Scotts Creek Falls: August 1887 Newlyweds Clara and Johannes Bensenhafer plummeted to their death and drowned while carrying a load of wheat over Scotts Creek when their wagon slipped into the ‘Death Hole’ and was caught in the undertow. Ghostly chatter, screaming horses, and the sighting of Clara walking along the waters edge have all been reported here.

Where are some of your favorite places to hike in Hocking Hills?
We happen to love Conkle’s Hollow State Nature Preserve, which offers two hiking experiences- the Gorge Trail and Rim Trail, and this one of the closest trails to the cabin, just 1.4 miles away.
The Gorge boasts one of the deepest rocky gorges in Ohio and is suitable for even the novice hiker, as its path is paved and mostly flat. The 1 mile trail winds through the rocky canyon, giving you a view from the ground up.
For the more adventurous hiker, the 2.5 mile Rim Trail circles the edge of the cliff, offering spectacular views from some of the highest heights down. Very much worth the effort to climb to the top!
