Deck the boats! Always a fun day and so worth the effort.
Thanks to Captain Dennis and Candace of Windjammer Angelique, Captain Becky and Nathan of Schooner Lewis R. French, Captain Barry and Jen of Schooner Mary Day and Captain Sean and Beth of The Schooner Heritage for making this happen!

Looking back on this year's WoodenBoat Rendez-Vous. What a day! Nine windjammers sailing in company to Brooklin, Maine, home of WoodenBoat Magazine. All our guests got to go ashore for live music and refreshments and then spend the night back on board in the harbor together.
The WoodenBoat Rendez-Vous takes place the second week of September - come sail with us!

Who’s ready to try their hand at raising the sails? Or better yet, steering the boat!

Another favorite photo: A crew member aboard Schooner Mary Day climbs aloft to ready the topsail. When all seven sails are set she carries 5200 square feet of canvas!

We are saddened by the loss of our friend and Windjammer legend Captain Ken Barnes. Ken and his wife Ellen owned the Schooner Stephen Taber from 1979 to 2003 before passing it on to their son Captain Noah who now carries on the tradition. Thanks for all the stories, music and support, Captain Ken. We will miss you!

While waiting for the mist to lift, the crew of Schooner Heritage treated everyone to a private concert right on the bow. 🎻 The haunting tunes drifted through the fog, making us feel like we’d traveled back in time. Couldn’t have asked for a more magical morning! The wind eventually filled in and the fog lifted, but part of us wished the fog had stayed just a bit longer.
This is the first photo in our series of some of our favorite photos from this past summer. Enjoy!

Looking back on a season full of smiles!
If you couldn't join us this year (or if you're ready to sail again!), it's not too early to start planning. The 2025 sailing schedules of all nine of our windjammers are now available on our Trip Finder. While most cruises are 3 to 6 nights long, there are some shorter one and some longer ones as well!

Can't believe it's already October!
Schooners Lewis R.French, America’s Oldest Schooner, and the Legend Mary Day- Good morning from the Coast of Maine. Well, that’s a wrap, at least for the Mary Day! Once they get started it is amazing how fast they get things ready for the winter season. You can see some of the crew of the French both high and low! It goes by so fast.
How is everyone? Needless to say, our thoughts and prayers are on all of those that are being affected by the hurricanes. What a mess.
Have a safe and peaceful day my friends.- Dan

This lighthouse station was established in 1836 and the current lighthouse was built in 1857. Its 1857 Fresnel lens is still in use!
The bell tower was added in 1890 though the bell is no longer used. The light aids sailors heading up the Penobscot River.
This is one of the lights you might visit on a windjammer trip. Do you know which one it is?

There’s so much to love about this image: the vibrant hues of the sunset, the graceful silhouette of the Schooner J. & E. Riggin, and of course, the unexpected charm of a trombone and lyre duo on board. How often do you get to be serenaded by such a unique pairing while watching the sunset from the deck of a historic schooner like the Schooner Stephen Taber?

Often, when we read an article about the Maine Windjammer Association cruises or talk to someone who’s been on one, we hear the term “life changing” in the description. It’s a concept often used when describing the sense of freedom and community that evolves on Maine Windjammer Association cruises. Read about how a few of the members of the media have described their time with us on the water and how it’s impacted their lives.
Blogger Elana Jadallah, from Elanaloo, had this to say after a sail aboard the Schooner Stephen Taber:
“If I were to describe our experience on the Schooner Stephen Taber in one word, it would be:
Life-changing.
That might seem like an extreme word choice but in those short three days, my desire to learn to sail grew quickly and shortly. I was dizzy watching the crew hard at work sailing this almost 150 year old vessel out amongst the 2200 something islands in the Penobscot Bay, without a concrete destination in mind. We were at the leisure of the tides and the wind which was exquisite and exhilarating. I am so incredibly thankful to have had this experience. We saw parts of Maine that many haven’t, we played a role in many things that I’ve wanted to do for years, dove into the ocean in secluded coves, ate some of the best food I’ve had and met amazing people. What’s better than that in life?
Gailen David, host of The Jet Set shared the impact of time aboard The Heritage to followers on Facebook:
“I’ve been home for a few days but have not stopped thinking about this trip. I’ve been on countless cruises but this sailing on the Schooner Heritage is incomparable. The beauty of Maine, the way of life I experienced on this windjammer ship and the people I met opened up a whole new world to me and has me dreaming of what’s next. I’m planning my next trip back!“
Susan Kohlback, WickedGoodTravelTips.com editor says in her “Best Unplugged Vacation in America” story in the Huffington Post:
“On our final evening aboard Victory Chimes, as we watch yet another spectacular sunset, there isn’t a passenger on board who wants to leave in the morning. As one, we wish this soothing interlude in our lives could stretch on and on. These are halcyon days we will reach for in our memories when the buzz of life gets too much. We are richer for meeting these dedicated captains and crews who preserve and celebrate the golden age of sail in America, and who share the experience with fortunate vacationers.”
Come aboard a Maine windjammer and see how your life is enriched and changed.
