This year we were lucky enough to have the U.S.S Delbert D Black for tours. The U.S.S Delbert D Black is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer of the United States Navy, which was launched in 2017. It weighs approximately 9,200 long tons, is 510 feet long, and houses 280 officers and enlisted. The ship is named for the first Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Delbert D. Black. Did you get to see the ship this year?
The Maine Lobster Festival Delegate is chosen along with a runner up and Most Congenial. Winners receive cash prizes and represent the Maine Lobster Festival and Maine’s lobster industry at festivals and events throughout the year. Did you watch the ceremony this year?

Did you watch the Maine lobster festivals Lobster eating contest? If you didn’t, the rules are simple. The first contestant to finish eating a 1 1/4 lb. steamed lobster wins. They must finish two claws, two knuckles, and the tail to be considered done.

The cod fish carry is where participants run to a skiff where they put on fisherman’s gear (a fisherman’s hat, big rain jacket, and rubber boots) as quickly as possible. After they grab a slippery 12-pound cod and carry it back to the skiff. Did you see this event this year?

At 5 pm King Neptune and his court will hold a wreath ceremony honoring all those lost at sea over the past year.

Ever wondered what it's like to actually run the crates at the Maine Lobster Festival International Great Crate Race? Instagram user t_sully34 was kind enough to share this up close view with us!
On Saturday long-time volunteer Peter Legage, aka, The Lighthouse Man, was presented with a quilt made from his many volunteer t-shirts. Peter started volunteering at the Maine Lobster Festival in 1997. He never missed a year, and was a tremendous help to the Festival crew. He’s always been in the Big Parade, first riding with King Neptune, and then creating his own lighthouse to walk in the parade with. Peter has autism and Parkinson's and isn't able to volunteer any longer, but he will continue to be a Festival legend to us!
