New Species Alert!
We just acquired 2 Male and 4 Female Nubian Ibex with the goal of establishing a larger herd over time. One of the many breeding projects of Vulnerable or Endangered species here on the ranch. Our goal is to produce at least 10 animals for every animal we harvest and so far we are exceeding that goal.
The Nubian ibex (Capra nubiana) occurs in the Middle East, in the Red Sea hills of Sudan as well as the highlands in Egypt. They are well adapted for arid environments with a tan color, white underbelly and rump, black legs, and dark tail. This species is Vulnerable, with less than 4,500 individuals in the wild. The population is declining through most of its range.

Meaning of Predator Control:
A wildlife management policy specifically aimed at reducing populations of predatory species either to protect livestock or boost populations of game animals.
Coyotes, bobcats, grey and red fox, pigs and mountain lions have been the most frequent targets around these neck of the woods!
We will keep fighting the good fight lil buddies. Y’all continue to populate!

Fallow ruts are characterized by males gaining the best territory possible to increase their odds for mating, and are often characterized by the presence of females on stands. During this time, males stop feeding to defend their ruts from subordinate males.
Males defending this territory often lose an average of 17% of their body weight, and the liver exhibits steatosis, which “IS”reversible.
Throughout breeding seasons, the males may obtain the same rut; in some cases, ruts can be held by more than one individual; some possibilities for this include high population density and less rut space, or more suitable habitats, which can be shared.

🦌Boys are still pushing the hardwear 🦌
Our fallow still have a solid 1 month left before they start to rub that fuzzy little velvet off, and begin to prepare for battle. The days of being friends and strolling through the ranch hanging with their homie will soon end and love will start to fill the air.
No worries, these friendships will only be temporarily suspended and soon the strolls will begin again!
