This was our family’s last week as owners of Ships and Giggles.

We expected to own this house until our kids were grown, but the crazy market conditions led us to reconsider.

We’ve learned so much about this house and its quirks and WOW, its location cannot be beat.

THANK YOU to all of our guests who have been so wonderful and treated the house so well. We read horror stories about people stealing and breaking things, and we’ve thankfully never had an issue.

We find that power outages occur at least once a week but are usually short and planned. This Facebook group or their IG is the best first place to check!

This morning's planned outage is complete and crews are now working to complete required maintenance to the transmission system. Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon can expect another brief outage when work is finished, later today. We will update you on the timing of this outage as work progresses. Thank you for your continued patience.

The 2021 Rental Season is HERE! We hope you have a fantastic week at this little slice of heaven. Please reach out to Midgett during the week if there is anything you need, and we try to respond to Facebook messages and emails as well.

We're once again sharing an electronic copy of our house manual so you can see the inventory for the kitchen and other key details and quirks with the house.

One important note for this year: we dropped DISH Network because the service was so poor, and we've moved to Hulu Live. This gives you access to live tv through Hulu as well as all of its streaming services. We ask that you do not sign in to personal accounts of Hulu or Amazon while at the house because it will lead to problems for the next guest.

Do smart TVs make you feel less than smart? We’ve swapped out all the TVs and gone streaming only this year. You will have cable and on demand programming through Hulu this year. It’s important that you stay logged in to the house account, not your own personal Hulu account if you have one.

We have instructions in each room to hopefully make it easy to use!

That’s a wrap on off season renovations for us! We have one more upgrade planned in a few weeks that we’re excited to see completed! And excited we don’t have to do it!

We have moved up our opening date to 3/20, which is now reflected on Midgett’s calendar. May be able to do a bit earlier but not sure yet.

Only a few open weeks left for the year.

It’s been a busy holiday week here at Ships and Giggles!

We painted the kitchen island, finally fixed the bottom rack of the dishwasher, got a desk for remote working, and got a fun surfboard for artwork to fill the wall!

And probably the biggest change— the guys tore up the existing wall at the pool, doubled the deck space, and are in the process of adding in a tiki bar. To be continued...

We made a quick 24 trip down to put in TWO new mattresses (4th floor, and 3rd floor king Oceanside) and swap out to all new smart TVs in preparation for next year. We have hated the service from Dish and how hard it has been for some to use the TVs, so we are going to test out Hulu Live when we are back in a few weeks.

We came down yesterday and had time to stop and see what’s actually at the Gravedigger attraction.

There’s a small track where you can ride a mini gravedigger but it’s very slow and definitely geared for the itty bitty kid! But seeing the big trucks up close was very cool—and free! We were on our way again in less than 10 minutes.

We made a quick trip down to the beach to add some more food storage in the kitchen and upgrade the twin bed on the bottom floor...

And we knew to expect you guys to move things around but we weren’t expecting the quilts on all the wrong beds! 😂 If you slept in the top floor master and thought the quilt felt short... it was! The flip flops are for the queen bed on the 3rd floor! How long has it been that way??

**2021 Bookings**
Hello friends! It's hard to believe but we are already running low on availability next year and we wanted to make sure that our friends and former guests were aware.

We currently have the house closed from January through March for renovations, but please message us directly and we'll see what we can do if you're looking for a long weekend or a COVID getaway.

The summer weeks currently left are:
May 15-22
May 29-June 5
June 5-12
June 12-19
July 31-Aug 7
Aug 7-14

April and most of September and October are also available.

As a reminder, we will be PET FREE to guests next year. We apologize for this change, but the costs to maintain a pet friendly home are significant and in order to upgrade the home to the level we hope, we can't maintain the fees, repairs, and cleaning required to allow pets.

Hello friends and guests! We are starting to get excited for off-season renovations and wanted to encourage some image crowd sourcing!

We have three big wish list items that we’re HOPING to tackle and would love to have some help with design inspiration:

1. Tiki bar off the pool - we would reconfigure part of the walk around deck off the pool and it would be under cover.

2. Top floor master bath - full renovation

3. One more king master bath (Not much to be done with reconfiguring but what design choices could maximize space and look really coastal)

Please feel free to post inspiration pics below! Tiki bar ideas like what we would be able to do are hard to find.

This home is about a half mile north. If you’re visiting in the next couple of weeks, please watch your toes in the sand and in the water as the debris makes its way out.

Make sure you avoid walking on the dunes so we can keep the homes safe from the sea for as long as possible.
