Not surprisingly, Iceland is known for its frozen landscapes. And while the country isn’t exactly the icy tundra people expect it to be, one of the best times to experience it is in winter. I spent no less than an hour last night scouring my list of favorite hotels in Punta Cana trying to find the perfect one for a client who’s taking a family vacation.

-Great Beach
-Actives for kids (prefers water slides)

All this is to say that if you don’t know where to look, the search for the perfect resort or hotel can take days or even weeks.

Hawaii offers some of the best stargazing spots in the world, thanks to its clear skies, low light pollution, and high elevations. One of the top spots is Mauna Kea on the Big Island. At nearly 14,000 feet, Mauna Kea is home to world-renowned observatories and offers breathtaking views of the night sky. The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to March) when the skies are clearest, but stargazing is excellent year-round. If you don’t want to go all the way to the summit, the Visitor Information Station at 9,200 feet is still a fantastic option for stargazing. Be sure to dress warmly, as temperatures drop significantly at higher elevations.

On Maui, Haleakalā National Park is another top spot for stargazing. The summit, standing at over 10,000 feet, offers an ideal vantage point for seeing the stars. Whether you stay after sunset or arrive before dawn, the views are mesmerizing. While stargazing is great year-round, the dry season (April to October) offers more consistent clear skies. The park’s high altitude makes it a prime location for stargazing with minimal light pollution.

For those seeking a more secluded spot, Moloka'i is a hidden gem. The island’s isolation and lack of development make it one of the darkest places in Hawaii, perfect for stargazing. The west side of the island near Papohaku Beach offers unobstructed views of the night sky. The best time to visit is between May and September, when the skies are clearest.

The ideal stargazing conditions in Hawaii occur during the dry season from April to October, when the skies are typically clear and free from cloud cover. Even outside these months, higher elevations like Mauna Kea and Haleakalā still offer excellent stargazing year-round, especially around the new moon, when the sky is darkest.
