⁉️ The lost art & forgotten service …
Recent months have discussed the prominence of those workers related to the below fields …. All of which are quick to tout their single most significance and how our economy cannot function without them. This is true. I am one who praises all whom contribute to the continuation of this incredible global service chain the American system embodies.
VESSEL. RAIL. AIR. BULK. CONTAINER.
FARM FRESH. SYNTEHTIC. GENUINE. IMITATED.
AMERICAN-MADE. IMPORTED.
🆘 BUT I most respectfully remind EVERY single one of YOU and THEM that each and every one of the above is delivered somewhere at some point by a TRUCK DRIVER.
💫 Once again, I emphasize this is not to negate the skill and hard work each deserve above. I truly believe this should be a reminder that each and every sector should have equal respect for the next.
📣 But the truck driver, who ironically happens to be the most critical in the service chain, tends to get the least respect from society, other positions, and those who are just as dependent on them to survive.
⏳The truck driver who waits to be loaded at a port. Or a dock. Or an airport. Then unload at a store. A distribution center or a market. Time is money. And the driver’s time is not usually considered or compensated fairly at least once if not at all destinations in the process.
🏆 Food for thought :
> When planes cannot access devastated areas, trucks can
> When cranes are paused for high winds, trucks find alternate routes
> When FEMA needs resources, vessels cannot access, trucks deliver your supplies
> When power is out and emergency food or pharmaceuticals need to be refrigerated, trucks deliver refrigerated trailers
> When lightening halts water and air, trucks are moving
> When farmers complete their harvest, trucks deliver to markets
🥇and WHILE UNIONS ARE NEGOTIATING, TRUCKS ARE STILL DELIVERING YOUR GOODS WITH HIGHER FUEL COSTS, HIGHER INSURANCE RATES, AND SURVIVING IN THE SAME WORLD YOU ARE
🎯 Lastly, while no one wants jobs lost to automation, we in the trucking world ask that the ILA and USMX consider that there be accountability for Driver’s time, fuel, and expenses spent in the port for hours on end. Minimum move numbers shouldn’t be met by lunch breaks so that the afternoon is a glazed over mosh pit of trucks desperate to make another turn.
🫶 We as a society can do better to respect one another. Be kinder & more considerate of each other’s livelihoods and well being. And simply move forward knowing that doing best together is making a more efficient & profitable future for all.
