Like money in the bank, getting the firewood in for winter is great peace of mind. I know I can have a really warm and comfortable home for the winter. I have so many big beautiful trees on the land and sometimes they die and sometimes they cleave off large branches. I greatly appreciate utilizing their biomass to bring warmth when we most need it.

Improvisation is an essential skill for life- I took pieces from an old trampoline to make a rock sled- I then pulled them into place using a motorized wheelbarrow. I’m building a level pad alongside my house for additional projects.

Sometimes, instead of buying what I need, I enjoy creating a custom version with my own two hands. I needed a roller box to transfer wood from the back porch into the house. I have lots of lumber and random hardware that I save for just the occasion. I made the box. very sturdy to sustain abuse of firewood. I made a handle from Madrone. The bottom is all pressure-treated. I created custom brackets for the wheels and I reinforced the top edge of the box with galvanized sheet metal and corner protectors. I lined the inside with protective carpeting and stained it with a red cedar polyurethane. This roller box breaks down the task of heating the house with ease and grace.
