After the winter storm, and then warmer stormy weather, we had a gorgeous sunset. With the lake so still, the reflection of sunset colored clouds is amazing.

Happy New Year!
One of the advantages of being in the country is enjoying so many fireworks displays by neighbors across from the lake. Video doesn't do it justice. The fireworks were beautiful reflecting on the lake.

This part of Texas doesn't typically get fall colors. Interestingly, I've only seen 2 invasive plants on the property that actually have pretty fall colors: this Chinese Tallow, and poison ivy. 🤷‍♀️

We finally received some rain after a month and a half without. The resurrection ferns are quite happy with the water. They go dormant and appear dry and dead during dry seasons. I'm happy to see them green again...it makes the place look lush and green. 😀

The Great White Egrets are back. Every evening at dusk, they come to rest in the trees on the island directly across from the house.

Its been a while since we've posted. We were in the process of moving from our Friendswood home to be able to dedicate more time to Tranquility Oaks Retreat, when Hurricane Beryl hit. So between hurricane recovery and the move, we've been quite busy. I'm happy to say that the retreat house is available to rent again. :)

Water is receding, and power returned Friday night. Now, the work begins of clearing branches and downed trees. We're so grateful that's all we have to do, and that the house wasn't damaged. Beryl may have made her presence known, but certainly doesn't have final say! We won't let a little wind and rain get us down!

When we bought this place, I thought the wall was weird and ugly. Just being real here... But I've never been so thankful for it as I am right now. Chocolate Bayou has overflowed its banks adding to the flood waters on the place. That wall that seems so out of place makes perfect sense right now. Its holding back 18-24 inches of water that would otherwise be inside the house.

I haven't posted lately because we've been moving our private residence to a new location, but Hurricane Beryl had an impact here. We're currently surveying the damage. The retreat house seems to be in pretty good shape. There are lots of downed limbs all over the property, and we are currently without power and flooded from an overflowing creek. As you'll see in the pics, a wall built by previous owners is doing its job keeping flood waters out. For now, we have lake front property on both sides of the house, lol!

We have a new family of ducks that have moved in. This is the second set of ducks in our lake currently. These are a bit bigger than the whistlers that live across the lake. They are hanging out with a Spoonbill...I think its Roseate. There's lots of bird watching on this place.

The Women's Gathering this past weekend was amazing! The weather was perfect. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and listening to the Lord. No weekend gathering at Tranquility Oaks Retreat would be the same without a campfire with smores! ...and we even enjoyed viewing the eclipse with special glasses for the occasion! We'll definitely do it again! Watch for dates in the Jan/Feb time frame. ;)

The green on the oak trees is called "Resurrection Fern." They've looked dry, brown, and dead all summer because of the drought, but thanks to the rains last week, they are nice and green again. So pretty!
