Royal Portrush is considered to be one of the best courses in the world and is one of the courses on the rota of the Open Championship. In 1951, Royal Portrush first hosted the Open Championship; it was the first Open tournament not held on the island of Great Britain. The Open returned to Portrush in 2019 and will host again in 2025.

Welcome to Turnberry, located on a stunning peninsula of links land in South Ayrshire with breathtaking vistas of the Mull of Kintyre, the islands of Arran, and Ailsa Craig, and on a clear day, even Ireland. It is also, of course, the location of the epic 1977 Open Championship dubbed “The Duel in the Sun” between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus.

Turnberry is a legendary location where the iconic lighthouse is located. Thomas and David Stevenson, the father and uncle of the well-known author Robert Louis Stevenson, built the lighthouse in 1873 on the headland near the crumbling walls of Turnberry castle, where it is said that Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, was born in 1274.

Located near St. Andrews, Kingsbarns sits along a 1.8 mile stretch of the North Sea coastline and is a great addition to one of our golf tours that involves The Old Course (ballot opening soon!).

The course co-hosts the annual European Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship together with The Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie Golf Links, and in 2017, Kingsbarns hosted The Women’s British Open.

Designed by Kyle Phillips, Kingsbarns opened in 2000 and has been rated as one of the top 100 courses in the world.

Ahhh Troon. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 This week’s Championship is the 10th time the club has hosted . Past Open champions at Royal Troon include Justin Leonard, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Watson, Tom Weiskoph, Arnold Palmer and Bobby Locke. Henrick Stenson most recently won at Troon in 2016.

Troon first hosted The Open in 1923, replacing its close neighbor Prestwick (the birthplace of The Open) in the Open rota, due to the growing crowds at the event. Prestwick’s close quarters were no longer able to support the crowds at the popular tournament. Today, Troon is one of the most popular stops for The Open Championship. England’s Daniel Brown leads the 2024 edition after day 1 with a score of -6.

Just down the road from and the this week is the Birthplace of , .

Formally organized in 1851, Old Tom Morris was Prestwick's "Keeper of the Green, Ball and Club Maker" from 1851 to 1864. Morris designed and built the original 12-hole course. The first Open was held in 1860, with three trips in one day over the course's 12 holes to make for 36 holes.

Prestwick remained in the Open's rotation until 1925, hosting the championship 24 times in all, which is second only to the Old Course.

What is your Caddy thinking about you?

The Caddies are such a big part of the St. Andrews experience and this book written by Oliver Horovitz gives a great behind the scenes look into the St. Andrews caddy community. It is also funny to hear what the Caddies are thinking about the players that they are caddying for.

We are only a few months from the Old Course Advanced Ballot where you can apply for an Old Course tee time in 2025 with no obligation. We think this is the best way to get on the Old Course so start thinking about who you are taking with you and tag them in the comments!
