March 2024: Puerto Madryn, Argentina. So glad we took the tour to the El Pedral reserve (Reserva El Pedral)! Took a walk to the beach, among the Magellanic penguins nests. These curious young penguins 🐧 are unafraid of humans! Stopped by the El Pedral farmhouse for a traditional Patagonian lamb roasted on a spit. Passed by Punta Ninfas’ cliff with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the gulf.

March 2024: Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Once in a lifetime adventure with 4x4 through a rugged landscape to Volunteer Point, home to King, Gentoo and Magellanic penguins 🐧🐧🐧

March 2024: Ushuaia, the “End of the World”: Tierra del Fuego National Park, the southernmost park in Argentina, delivering stunning glacial, mountain, and forested landscapes & a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hiked to the Cascada Río Pipo (Pipo River Waterfall); followed the beautiful forest trail that borders the Lapataia River until its convergence with Lake Acigami (an impressive glacial lake of colorful waters); took the Mirador Lapataia trail with incredible views of Lapataia Bay & arrived at the famous sign on National Route 3 that announces the end of the road and the distance to Alaska: 17,848 km; reached the famous Post Office at the End of the World, located at a pier with lovely views of Bahía Ensenada (Ensenada Bay).

March 2024: Sailing through the Magallanes and Antarctica Chilena region, with beautiful mountains and glaciers!

March 2024: Punta Arenas, Chile. Explored Fuerte Bulnes, a fort located by the Strait of Magellan, built to ward off claims by other nations, using mainly logs, dirt and grass 'bricks'. Today, the reconstructed fort is a historic monument. Spotted the Cordillera Darwin, an extensive mountain range mantled by an ice field. Stopped by the visitor center to see the woven artwork in display, saw the Puerto del Hambre (Port Famine) & learned about its sad history. The coastal trail offered amazing views of the Strait of Magellan and along the coast, the trees were bent in one direction due to the intense wind. The nature offered such a serene feeling, with birds singing, sun bathing our faces, a little breeze and the sound of water…what a perfect day!

March 2024: Dalcahue, in Chile's Lake District. Famous for the “Feria Artesanal de Dalcahue” (handicraft market/fair), where only local products from Chiloé can be sold. We found the best prices here for wool products (llama, alpaca or sheep), compared to any other ports our cruise visited. Amazingly, we saw a 3rd wooden church, also part of the 16 Churches of Chiloé that were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

March 2024: San Juan, in Chile's Lake District. It’s beautiful wooden church is also one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé that were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visited the shipyard to see how fishing boats are built by hand using traditional methods.

March 2024: Tenaún, in Chile's Lake District. The Church of Tenaún was declared a National Monument in 1999 and is one of the 16 Churches of Chiloé that were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Saw many traditional houses using wood shingles, ate freshly picked 🍎 , tried the murta fruit used in murta sour drink, saw dolphins 🐬 and black-necked Patagonian swans 🦢

March 2024: was supposed to stop at Puerto Chacabuco, but due to high winds and bad weather, we stopped by Castro, Chile, instead. Castro is a city on Chiloé Island in Chile's Lake District, famous for its palafitos, traditional wooden stilt colorful houses.

Enjoyed complimentary dinning venues, such as Ginza (Asian), Versailles (Main Dining) and O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill (24-hour venue with freshly cooked chicken wings, burguers, salads, soups & desserts 🍨).

Lunch at Liguria Lastarria & Liguria Manuel Montt: tried lots of local food, such as Oysters a la Parmesana, Shrimp Empanadas🦐, Chupe de Jaiba (blue crab pie)🦀, Pisco Sour, etc.

Château de Chantilly: an expert of the Confrérie des Chevaliers Fouetteurs de Crème Chantilly showed how to prepare the delicious Chantilly Cream (sweetened whipped cream), with tasting afterwards 😋. Followed by a visit to the château's art gallery, the Musée Condé, which houses one of France's finest collections of paintings. It specialises in French paintings and book illuminations of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Abbaye de Mortemer & Lyons-la-Forêt

Located in the heart of the beech forest of Lyons-La-Forêt, the Mortemer Abbey was founded in 1134 upon the request of Henri I Beauclerc, the last son of William the Conqueror at this time Duke of Normandy and King of England. It was the first Cistercian abbey in Normandy and the witness of a prestigious past : this place of pilgrimage for many kings and queens crossed the centuries until the last 4 monks living at the abbey were murdered during the French Revolution.

Today, the abbey is a place full of history, where a strange atmosphere reigns due to the ghost tenants who have been lurking there for centuries. Indeed the abbey is home to many legends such as that of Mathilde l'Emperesse which is best known in the region under the name of the White Lady of Mortemer or that of the last 4 monks murdered in the 18th century.

Omaha Beach & American Military Cemetery, Normandy, France

Omaha Beach is one of the Normandy landing beaches of World War II, where Allied efforts linked the British landing to the east at Gold with the American landing to the west at Utah, on the D-Day invasion.

American Military Cemetery contains the remains of 9,387 American military dead, most of whom were killed during the Normandy invasion and the operations that followed. There is a time capsule here containing news reports from June 6, 1944.

Pointe du Hoc in Normandy, Northern France

Pointe du Hoc is a rugged promontory with a 100-foot cliff overlooking the English Channel. Here, the D-Day invasion was left to a small elite unit of U.S. Army Rangers who scaled the cliff face and fought unsupported for two days before capturing the area from the N***s. Scars and damage from the bombs and battle are still evident.
