The U.S. Forest Service - Lincoln National Forest is now closed due to extreme fire danger. This closure includes all National Forest System lands, recreation sites, picnic grounds, campgrounds, roads, trails, and trailheads within the boundary of the Lincoln National Forest. The closure will remain in effect until July 30, 2022, unless it is rescinded earlier.
There is still a TON to do in this summer! You can enjoy the cool weather, walk the trails around town (like the River Trail in this photo!), shop in Midtown, fish/swim/boat/play on the Wibit at Grindstone Lake, fish and hike around Alto Lake, watch the horse races at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino, explore the old west at the Lincoln Historic Site, test your luck at one of the area casinos, experience summer tubing at Ruidoso Winter Park, rent a slingshot from Backcountry Attitudes, play a round of golf at one of the area courses, ride a go-kart at Pillow's Funtrackers Family Fun Center, throw some discs at one of the disc golf courses, climb the obstacle course at Adventure Mountain Ruidoso, New Mexico, check out a show at Spencer Theater, Alto/Ruidoso, New Mexico, play at one of the many parks and playgrounds, grab a bite to eat or drink, relax in the mountains AND MORE.
