A very interesting read on the South Fork, Salt, Blue 2 and McBride burn scars and the subsequent flooding during the Monsoon Season.

The NWS Albuquerque - 2024 Fire & Monsoon Season storymap is now available. Details on the Blue 2, South Fork and Salt wildfires and the ensuing devastating impacts from burn scar flash flooding in and around Ruidoso can be found in this storymap. It also highlights the incredible collaborative work done at all levels from the local to county to state to federal levels toward the emergency response efforts.

Effective immediately, The Lincoln National Forest has reduced the fire danger rating to ‘low’ on all three districts.
The reduction in fire danger rating and lifting of fire restrictions has come after analysis and indicators of moisture levels in the area, along with extended weather forecasts for the area and region.
When the fire danger rating is low, fuels do not ignite easily from small embers, however, a more intense heat source could start fires in dry or rotten wood. Fires in open grasslands may burn easily after rain.
Even though we are approaching the winter months, fire safety remains important on the Lincoln. Ensure your campfires are completely dead-out and the ground in the campfire ring is cool to the touch to avoid an abandoned campfire reigniting. Be mindful of current and developing winter weather conditions, and always be prepared for safe winter travel.
