Camaraderie, fun, and a touch of friendly competition were the hits of yesterday’s 22nd Annual Franklin Savings Bank/River Valley Chamber/River Valley Rotary Charity Golf Tournament ⛳️

Not only did we enjoy the beautiful course and perfect weather, but we also had the opportunity to connect with our community and fellow local businesses. It’s events like these that strengthen our bonds and remind us of the vibrant community we proudly serve. 💙

We’re already looking forward to next year!

Listen carefully!

I am in the Winter of my Season(75)

I have been a Boy Scout, plaid sports through High School, been a U.S. Navy Radio Man and Teletype Maintenance man and Operator, a graduate of Husson College with a B.S. Degree in Administration, worked at many different vocations, an Entrepreneur owning a beauty shop for 11 years while working for the Maine Department of Manpower later known as the Department of Labor, became an Office Manager during the same time period, then went back to night classes at the University of Maine Farming for a year (again while employed by the MDOL) and after a year obtained my Real Estate Brokers License in 1986! Worked as a full-time/Part Time Realtor first for C-21 for 6 months, then for 13 years for ERA Leavitt and in doing so attended 11 weeks on Week Ends ERA Top Gun Academy and obtained my ERA Top Gun Wings! Continued working at the MDOL until I retired in Drecembet 2002! And during the 1990’s served off and on a VP of the local Chamber of Commerce being a force changing the name from “ The Greater Rumford Chamber of Commerce to what we all now know as the “ The River Valley Chamber of Commerce” to show unity of the ten towns of the Westrtn Mountains of Maine! Was the Brain Child of “ Christmas-In-The-Valley” and plaid Santa in the yearly parades for 10 plus years! Took on roles such President of The Western Maine Business, Maine Chapter President of The International Association of Personnel In Employment Security, Chairperson the Maine Department Award Recognition Committeefor several years and in doing so received an Unsung Hero Award for Promoting Public Service the State of Maine in 1995(one of three in the Nation to receive it!) after retiring at 54 I purchased DeSalles Motel and RV site in December 2002! (I was going to semi retire). NOT! 3 months into such a successful venture I opened up my own Real Estate Business ( Riverside Realty) with 6 months had several agents working for me while still operating the motel and RV sites, became President of the local Mountain Council of Realtors in 2005-2006 which further resulted in being a recipient of the 2006 Realtor of the Year and again in 2013! In the mean time joined the local River Valley Rotary Club in October, 2010 became Club President in 2013 and recipient of Rotarian of the year have served President a couple other times since! Received a Dot Sanches recognition and plaque for Kindness Counts around 2020 for being a community volunteer for many years! And as a Rotarian took on being the chairperson for projects such as Crutches 4Africa and the local communities Winterization Projects for Seniors! I received my 40 year Pin as Master Mason in 2023 having gone up the York Rights to Commandry! While I am still the owner of Riverside Realty I am semi retired after 20 years of Owning and Operating this very successful business!

I am, once again, the current RVRC President as well as the Public Relations Personnel and recipient now ten Paul Harris acknowledgements!

In April, 2024 I turned 75 and share with you that Attitude is not everything! For while you must maintain a Positive Attitude one must put forth the Effort as well! Being a People Person, Humble and Kind to my fellow man has been the main reason for my success ! My Mother had taught me so many decades ago that while it’s Nice to Be Important, It Is More Important To Ne Nice!

The feautred speaker at the River Valley Rotary Club’s Fellowship luncheon March 18, 2024 held at HOPE Association 87 Lincoln Ave Rumford, Me were Bob and Louise Stickney and their topic was on harvesting bees!

Beekeepers are also called honey farmers, apiarists, or less commonly, apiculturists (both from the Latin apis, bee; cf. apiary). The term beekeeper refers to a person who keeps honey bees in beehives, boxes, or other receptacles!

They imparted the difficulties in harvesting bees for honey and at the same time the joy they experience year round in doing so!

Seen in the photo are Dick Lovejoy, Totarian of the Day, Bob and Louise Stickney and Rich Allen, Current Club President!

Charlie LeDuc, Secretary and Fellow Rotarian is also the local Chair for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) project!

Charlie gave a brief presentation on this years 2024 project being held June 23rd at Camp June Raymenknd, Me!

Do you have what it takes to become a dynamic leader and change yourself and the world?
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

What are the benefits?

Connect with leaders in your community and around the world to:

Build communication and problem-solving skills
Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in your school or community
Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
Unlock your potential to turn motivation into action
Have fun and form lasting friendships
What’s involved?

RYLA events are organized locally by Rotary clubs and districts for participants ages 14-30. Depending on community needs, RYLA may take the form of a one-day seminar, a three-day retreat, or a weeklong camp. Typically, events last 3-10 days and include presentations, activities, and workshops covering a variety of topics.

Your community might host a RYLA event for secondary school students to hone their leadership potential, for university students to develop creative problem-solving strategies, or for young professionals to learn ethical business practices.

How can I participate?

RYLA participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs. Contact your local Rotary club to find out more about RYLA events in your area, how to apply, and any costs of getting involved.
