Please help me wish my momma a happy 89th birthday! Raised in WW2 Salzburg, Austria where her and her family struggled to survive the N**i occupation and daily bombing by the allied forces, she not only sat on Hitler’s lap as a child she was forced to help sort body parts on a regular basis during the war. She legally immigrated to the USA where she went on to own businesses, show and judge dogs, raise her family, and help the community in countless ways. She runs a massive homeless project helping the people of Houston get clothes and food. She is the proudest American I know and being born on Veteran’s Day has always been a source of pride for her and all that America did for her and saving her homeland. Charlton Heston Training on Chariot for his role in Ben Hur

Charlton Heston takes a spin on a four-horse chariot. Heston is really just practicing. He is in Rome to film "Ben Hur", and he is training for the big chariot racing scene in the film.

The dramatic scene of the chariot race was shot at Cinecittá Studios, in Rome, on an arena track that covered 18 acres, the largest single set in motion picture history at the time. To set the track, many tonnes of white sand were brought over from Mexico. The track had to be strong enough to support the weight of the chariots, and, at the same time, very smooth, so as to avoid any damage to the horses when they ran around it over and over again during the training and filming sessions.

A total of 18 Roman chariots were built; half of them went to Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd. Both actors had to spend long hours training to learn to ride the chariots. For Heston, it was faster and easier to learn to ride the chariot, as he was a gifted and talented horse rider. The process took longer for Boyd, who had no experience with horses at all. It is worth noting that both actors decided to film their respective shots themselves, despite the dangers involved. They left only the extremely hazardous scenes to their doubles.

We got some sad news today. We sure did enjoy knowing you Ms. Eunice! You were an infamous bandit.

Her daughter had this to say-

Long ago in a far away land lived an old gold robber by the name of Eunice Mangum. Ms Eunice was known to be the only outlaw that got away with stealing from the famous Tassie Bell Gang and lived to tell about it.

Well, ole Ms Eunice came upon hard times awhile back and she ran into that gang unexpectedly in the piney woods of East Texas. There was a gun battle involved and Ms Eunice had to hand over all the gold she'd stolen so long ago. Well, that weren't really true cause that crafty Ms Eunice hid some of that gold and was able to live out her life happy and rich in spirit as she looked at life without hate and a heart full of love.

On Thursday, November 7th at 12:30AM that ole gold robber Ms Eunice made a permanent address change as she stepped into heaven. She died at her home surrounded by family and made it to a young old age of 98. One thing that gal loved for sure was trains and bank robbers which put her at the top of the fan list of the Tassie Bell Gang and the Train Robber Ranch. A couple weeks before making her exit Ms Eunice got a gift from TRR which delighted her heart exceedingly. While she never got to wear it she sure smiled big when it arrived. For us, the Tassie Bell Gang and Ole Ms Eunice will be one of those old folk tails told by the elders to the youngsters sittin by a campfire.

Smile on Ms Eunice. You will be missed by all.

Sad news..

Peptoboonsmal, a National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Open Futurity Champion stallion, died at the age of 32 on October 22, 2024 from age-related complications. He is buried on the Aaron Ranch in Commerece, Texas, where his owners plan to erect a memorial.

Peptoboonsmal was acquired by the Aarons from Jackson Land & Cattle in Jackson Hole, Wyoming when he was 22 years old. Lori Aaron wanted him to spend his final years at the family's ranch. He was officially retired from breeding and left behind many offspring who followed in his footsteps. At the time of his death, he had sired offspring that had earned over $28 million, and his daughters had produced offspring that had earned over $85 million

When visiting be sure you make it to downtown Jacksonville where there are many cute shops but a very cool new addition is Braly’s Ace Hardware. Their new location is in an old bank building complete with a vault! Brayl’s original location is in Palestine and opened in 1932. It’s a must see if you head that way. The store carries a large selection of Yeti products as well as home goods and gifts. The staff is very friendly and the store is gorgeous.
