MSC & NORWEGIAN WILL HAVE A LARGE AND STRONG PRESENCE IN GALVESTON TX:
MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line are each making significant strides in expanding their presence at the Port of Galveston, offering new options for travelers seeking adventures to the Caribbean, Mexico, and other sun-soaked destinations. Through major investments and partnerships with Galveston Wharves, both cruise lines are enhancing the port’s capacity and services, promising an exciting boost to the local cruise industry by 2025.
MSC Cruises is set to make Galveston one of its primary homeports in the U.S., part of a broader strategic expansion across North America. This project involves the transformation of an existing cargo warehouse into a modern, state-of-the-art cruise terminal. MSC’s investment totals $151 million for the terminal, designed to cover 165,000 square feet and equipped with amenities to accommodate growing passenger volumes. Additionally, the company is funding a $55 million multi-level parking garage dedicated solely to MSC Cruises guests, providing seamless access to the terminal and making the embarkation process more convenient and efficient. When this new terminal opens in 2025, it will mark a milestone as MSC Cruises introduces the MSC Seascape, the first of its vessels to operate from Galveston. MSC Seascape will begin 7-night cruises to the Western Caribbean in November 2025, visiting vibrant ports and providing a luxurious vacation experience with MSC’s renowned hospitality and diverse onboard amenities. This initiative not only expands MSC’s footprint in the U.S. market but also adds a new dimension to cruising options out of Texas.
Norwegian Cruise Line is also strengthening its commitment to Galveston. The cruise line recently finalized a decade-long agreement with Galveston Wharves, securing its place at the port and ensuring regular, seasonal sailings beginning in late 2025. Norwegian will be deploying its Prima Class ships, which are known for their innovative designs and luxurious features. Among these, the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva are set to become key players in Galveston’s lineup, with the Norwegian Viva slated to begin Caribbean cruises in November 2025. These ships offer a variety of features tailored to appeal to a wide range of travelers, including spacious cabins, upscale dining venues, and the latest entertainment experiences.
These investments by MSC and Norwegian bring a new era of growth and variety to the Port of Galveston, reinforcing the port’s position as a key gateway for U.S. cruisers. The new MSC terminal is strategically located between Royal Caribbean’s newly constructed terminal and Carnival Cruise Line’s established terminal, creating a prime zone for major cruise line activity and offering travelers a diverse selection of cruise options all in one place. Together, MSC and Norwegian’s commitments signal an exciting chapter for Galveston as a cruise hub, poised to offer travelers a unique and accessible gateway to the Caribbean and beyond.
