This amazing trip through Central America was a life changing experience. After a long haul of job searching, I wanted a much needed break to explore life internationally where I conquered a 4 month solo backpacking trip.

How did I do it? I stayed in hostels, lived off a modest budget of $15 per day (not including lodging) and simply adapted a slower paced life while making new and inspiring friends along the way!

Where did I go? Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama & Guatemala

In honor of Black History Month I wanted to share this neat article. Has anyone ever flown a plane before? In the world of travel it seems more common to get from point A to point B through different accommodations; sometimes without our choice. From cancelled flights to long lay-overs, I have traveled by bus, car, plane, foot, bicycle, boat and train. Though it has never occurred to me to lead the show in taking the driver's seat. What a neat opportunity to see the world in a new perspective!

New Year Inspiration!

Welcome to my travel page everyone! As you most of you may know, from my array of Facebook friends from around the world, is that I love to travel. What most of you don’t, is my talent for doing so on a modest budget. As we embark on a new year to reset our goals and redirect our energy towards greatness, I wanted to share a snippet of my travel aspirations and fun insights to encourage others to live a life of fulfillment and adventure!

I grew up in Seattle, WA and adopted my love for travel, dance, culture and the arts at an early age. As the saying goes, β€œHome is where the heart is,” as I had always been able to find a place of serenity in the good ole’ Pacific Northwest. Despite the gloom (those this doesn’t bother everyone), the gorgeous daily view of beautiful Mount Rainier, the never ending flow of Lake Union and Lake Washington throughout the city, rocky beaches at Golden Gardens and Discovery Park (to name a few) and soothing ferry rides to Bainbridge, Vashon and the San Juan Islands while hoping to spot an Orca Whale along the way! But as the saying goes, never get too comfortable...

Believe it or not, by the time I was 9 years old, I had visited almost every state in the country! So travelling was in my blood. In elementary school my grandparents would drive my older brother, cousins and I across the country to visit extended family during our summer breaks. I also went on family vacations with my parents throughout the year, which came in handy for back to school shopping with no sales tax in Portland, Oregon and Canada :) These early exposures to explore the unknown were fun and full of adventure, as I never could imagine turning these experiences into a business of my own. When it was time to go to college, there’s no wonder I moved to Washington, D.C. as I wanted a completely different experience from my home on the West Coast. I fascinated by the diversity and proximity to various states (as they were much smaller in size), especially New York! I became more direct by the fast-paced cities, expanded my music palate to original East Coast hip-hop and D.C. inspired Go-Go music and really felt at home with the extended hours for night life, as I’m a night owl by nature.

After finishing college, I returned back to Seattle and instantly knew that I had changed for the better. I was dying to travel internationally and was able to visit the motherland where I traveled to both Egypt and Ethiopia just a few months after returning home. Upon advancing my career, I would save my PTO for 3-day weekends to maximize my vacation time and expanded my list to include a 2 week adventure to Australia before relocating to San Diego for graduate school, where I currently reside. After becoming a student again, I had to be creative without a stable income to travel as freely as I’d like to. My friends and I would take annual trips to Las Vegas by plane or car and to Albercas el Vergel a water slide park in Tijuana where we would walk across the Mexican border. However, my favorite way to travel were my solo road trips around SoCal to exotic art festivals, where I get to relax in the woods, camp, dance and meet new people; surprisingly, many from around the world!
