There are eight major islands that make up Hawaii with the most frequented being Oahu, Maui, Big Island of Hawaii, and Kauai. Each has a unique culture, history, landscape, vibe, and things to do and see.
Choose Oahu if you are looking for an island with a city vibe that’s near/on a beach. (Honolulu/Waikiki)! Think lively clubs, bars, nightlife, shopping, and dining.
Maui is for those who want a tropical paradise with a little of everything – beach, hikes, volcanoes, rainforests, resorts, and nightlife.
The Big Island is known for its multiple climates and abundance of natural attractions, including Volcanoes National Park.
Kauai is known as “the Garden Isle” and for good reason. Its lush landscapes make it a perfect escape for those looking for a more outdoor and active vibe.

Planning a trip to Hawaii?
There are a handful of adventures on each island that are completely free but must be reserved in advance.
That’s because the State of Hawaii, a year or two ago, decided to enforce daily limits on entrance to key sights and fragile ecosystems in response to rampant over tourism.
Regulating the flow of people was actually the best decision ever but it also means you’ve got to plan ahead!
If you’re hoping to walk even the first quarter mile of the famous Kalalau Trail on Kauai or Diamond Head on Oahu, you’ll need an advance reservation.
And there are different restrictions on how soon these can be reserved in advance of your visit.

Travel Tip Tuesday - Cruise Edition:
Preparing to leave your cruise ship will actually start on the last full day of your cruise, and your cruise director will hold a briefing to go over disembarkation procedures. We highly recommend attending this meeting, especially if it is your first cruise. They will share any forms which may need to be filled out prior to clearing customs. They will also explain options that are available for taking your luggage off the ship. The more you know!

Before the ship leaves port, there will be a mandatory muster drill. This is a safety exercise designed to familiarize all passengers with the location where they are to assemble in the unlikely event of an emergency. When finished, the cruise ship horn will blow as people gather on the lido deck to wave goodbye to dry land.
Cruise muster drills are mandatory.
Typically, each passenger’s assigned muster point will be indicated on their key card and in their cabin. Each ship deck will also have signs directing passengers where to go in an emergency.
During your muster drill, you will meet at your assigned muster point. The crew member running the drill will explain why this is important. They will also explain what you should do if you are in another part of the ship in an emergency.

When cruising, and likely before you even board the ship, you'll be greeted by porters who will take your luggage. It will be delivered to your room later in the day. This is a great convenience, as there's no need to haul your bags through the entire check-in progress. But it also means you might not have access to your luggage for many hours on your first day on board.

Cruises depart from many ports located around the world.
If you are flying or traveling a great distance to get to your cruise, it is recommended you arrive at least the day before your departure. This will allow a buffer in case of flight or traffic delays. Cruise ships rarely wait for passengers past the scheduled departure time.
