We went on a new adventure today. It is an easy 1.5 hour drive from the condo.

Devil’s Den was founded in 1979, because a farmer was losing cattle and could not figure out where they were going or what was happening to them. When he went and wandered his property he found the freshwater, underground spring, and I’m sure a few dead cattle. 😬.

The water temperature is a constant balmy 72 degrees 🥶. We all snorkeled, some longer than others.

Hurricane Ian did some damage to the outside of Coquina, missing shingles, soffits, and shingles. Our dunes took a beating and washed off the top of the beach. Inside we stayed nice and dry.

Today (Aug. 28) marks 457 years since Admiral Don Pedro Menéndez de Avilés and his crew first spotted the land that would be claimed for the King and Queen of Spain, and would become the charming city you see today.

That was 42 years before Jamestown was established and 55 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock! St. Augustine remains the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the continental United States.
