Throw Back Thursday's are always fun!
These pictures are from Jan 2015 when we took the Freedom and her crew down to the Keys and Dry Tortugas on winter break. We picked up a ton of trash on the island, raced in the Wrecker's Race and happen to run into in Key West!

Happy President’s Day, everyone! Franklin D. Roosevelt, who loved the sea, spent more days afloat than any U.S. president and logged in over 110,000 miles at sea during his presidency?
It was not uncommon for FDR and his crew of amateur sailors to take to the sea in a small sailboat, sometimes for days at a time. With great skill—and even greater enjoyment—he would outmaneuver his Navy and Secret Service guards, sailing his schooner, Amberjack II, into secluded coves and narrow passages where larger Navy and Coast Guard vessels, which FDR jokingly referred to as ‘our wagging tail,’ couldn’t follow. At the time, Navy and security personnel were not allowed aboard FDR’s boats. Instead, they were ordered to follow at a distance, struggling to keep up with the elusive President. ⚓️🇺🇸

It’s Tall Ship Tuesday, and Valentine’s Day is just a few days away so let’s talk about the ultimate display of love amongst sailors in the 1800s – the sailor’s valentine! The sailor’s valentine is a long-cherished shell craft, seen as a sentimental gift for a sailor’s loved one. The intricate creations were made using numerous tiny seashells and were very popular between 1830 and 1890. Sailors would make them during their voyages at sea, intending to present them to their loved ones upon returning home. The exquisite designs often depicted romantic or maritime themes, making them unique tokens of affection with a connection to the ocean. Pictured above are some sailor’s valentines from our dear friend, Commander Rick, that he made for his lovely wife, Kathy, while he was in the Navy.
