When hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, you can opt for either a mountain hut or a tent as your accommodation. The Marangu Route is the only path which offers huts, while all other seven routes require camping in a tent. Camping on the mountain is part of the adventure, and after a long day on the trail, your tent will become your own private sanctuary to rest and recover.
Tents & Mattresses on Kilimanjaro
On all our climbs, we use Mountain Hardwearβs rugged, 4-season tents, designed specifically for mountain conditions. Built to accommodate three people, we only ever have two people in a tent, leaving enough room for your duffel bag containing all your gear. A vestibule at the front provides a sheltered spot for you to stow muddy boots and gaiters. These tents are manufactured to withstand high winds, heavy rain and snow cover, making them ideal for the environment on Kilimanjaro.
When you arrive at camp, your tent will be already set up for you by our team, and your gear safely inside. The campsites are flat, not subject to any water accumulation, and our team will make sure there are no stray rocks underneath. Youβll be provided with a rugged foam mattress, though if you have a particular sleeping mat you prefer, you are welcome to bring it with you.

We understand you have many choices when it comes to Kilimanjaro guide services. But when selecting an operator, your safety should take precedence over any other consideration. Beware of companies that downplay the potential dangers of high altitude trekking. They are more focused on selling you a trip than helping you make an informed decision.
We have a comprehensive safety system that was co-developed with the knowledge and expertise of professional mountaineers, western doctors and altitude experts. For starters, all of our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR), meaning they are trained to respond to emergency situations in remote locations. We conduct health checks twice a day to monitor oxygen saturation levels and heart rates. We carry bottled oxygen on every climb. And much, much more.

Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value, it has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa
The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania was established in 1952. It is home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth β the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. The resident population of lions, cheetah, elephants, giraffes, and birds is also impressive. Thereβs a wide variety of accommodation available, from luxury lodges to mobile camps. The park covers 5,700 sq miles, (14,763 sq km), itβs larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple of hundred vehicles driving around.
It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back.
The Wildebeests travel through a variety of parks, reserves and protected areas and through a variety of habitats. Join us to explore the different forms of vegetation and landscapes of the Serengeti ecosystem and meet some of their most fascinating inhabitants.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Crater is the worldβs largest intact volcanic caldera. Forming a spectacular bowl of about 265 square kilometres, with sides up to 600 metres deep; it is home to approximately 30,000 animals at any one time. The Crater rim is over 2,200 metres high and experiences its own climate. From this high vantage point it is possible to make out the tiny shapes of animals making their way around the crater floor far below. Swathes of cloud hang around the rocky rim most days of the year and itβs one of the few places in Tanzania where it can get chilly at night.
The crater floor consists of a number of different habitats that include grassland, swamps, forests and Lake Makat (Maasai for βsaltβ) β a central soda lake filled by the Munge River. All these various environments attract wildlife to drink, wallow, graze, hide or climb. Although animals are free to move in and out of this contained environment, the rich volcanic soil, lush forests and spring source lakes on the crater floor (combined with fairly steep crater sides) tend to incline both grazers and predators to remain throughout the year.
Ngorongoro Crater: Wildlife Highlights
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most likely areas in Tanzania to see the endangered Black Rhino, as a small population is thriving in this idyllic and protected environment. It is currently one of the few areas where they continue to breed in the wild. Your chances of encountering leopard here are also good, and fabulous black-maned lions. Many flamingos are also attracted to the soda waters of Lake Magadi.

Hadzabe Bushmen living at Lake Eyasi -KiliBound Adventures
The Hadzabe bushmen live in the region around the lake. They are one of the few remaining tribes that still live the same way like they did hundreds of years ago. A visit with the bushmen is worthwhile! They subsist entirely of the bush and by bow hunting. The Hazabe Bushmen are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherers in Africa and live solely on the land. Just as in the Stone Age, like our ancestors did for thousands of years.
Excursions and activities in Lake Eyasi
The Hadzabe bushmen live in the region around Lake Eyasi. You can also find the Datoga and Mbulu tribes here. A visit with the bushmen is worthwhile and they will graciously show you where and how they live and hunt. They subsist entirely of the bush and by bow hunting. The Hazabe Bushmen are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherers in Africa and live solely on the land. Just as in the Stone Age, like our ancestors did for thousands of years.
Experience the culture, habitat and way of life of the Hadzabe Bushmen first hand on this cultural activity. You go with the Bushman on a hunting trip around Lake Eyasi early in the morning. Learn how they make fire and prepare their food. In the afternoon you will visit a market where Hadzabe trade their honey, fruits and other things for knives, arrows and spears that the Datoga silversmithβs make. This cultural activity is absolutely a memorable experience and worth the extra time.

Tarangire National Park:
Tarangire National Park has some of the highest population density of elephants as compared to anywhere in Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and distinctive location to visit.
Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for people travelling through the northern safari circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and the wildlife is allowed to move freely throughout.
Before the rains, droves of gazelles, wildebeests, zebras, and giraffes migrate to Tarangire National Parkβs scrub plains where the last grazing land still remains. Tarangire offers unparalleled game viewing, and during the dry season elephants abound. Families of the pachyderms play around the ancient trunks of baobab trees and strip acacia bark from the thorn trees for their afternoon meal. Breathtaking views of the Maasai Steppe and the mountains in the south make a stopover at Tarangire a memorable experience.
Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. Itβs the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem β a smorgasbord for predators β and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.
