Ahoy Me Hearties! Like the mythical Phoenix rising from the ashes, we are excited and proud to announce Pirate Lights Marine Security Systems is also rising, continuing the quest in deterring crime while providing peace of mind for the boating world.

Julie and I would personally like to take a moment to introduce you to the new family owners of Pirate Lights, Donald and Yoshiko Breadon, with their two young sons who are scallywags in training😉

Donald contacted me a few months ago with a desire to reinvent the Pirate Lights system. The need for a cost effective, quality security system for cruisers and the boating community is an unrivaled commodity. As we explained in our goodbye post on January 14th, living full-time in Bonaire made the logistics and expense of operating Pirate Lights improbable.

To better serve the patrons of Pirate Lights, the right managerial and logistical fit was required. Donald, with his history in military unmanned flight development and a Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, was the driving force in handing over the reins of the company.

With Yoshiko and the boys backing him up, Donald is excited to undertake the challenges of continually improving on Pirate Light's reputation. Supplying cruisers in an uncertain world with a product that provides unparallel peace of mind was the challenge Donald craved.

Julie and I are very excited for the future of Pirate Lights and we give Donald and his family our full endorsement and support as the rebirth of Pirate Lights has begun!

Thank you for visiting the Pirate Lights Facebook site. The Covid and Variants-related Pandemic over the past two years, as well multiple supply chain and shipping issues, have hit all parts of the business world with major difficulties. Pirate Lights has not been exempt. We have been unable to continue with some parts’ suppliers or connect with other suppliers and as we were full-time live aboard cruisers ourselves, we have not been able to diligently research or pursue other parts’ suppliers. We had pre-made dozens of Pirate Lights and Parrot Units the last time we were in the States during the initial quarantine. However, we have now sold and shipped off the last completed Pirate Lights marine security unit. 😕

My wife Julie and I made the decision this past Fall to become land based again after years at sea, retiring to a home on the Dutch Antilles Island of Bonaire. Supplier and transport issues aside, we are unable to justify the cost to ship parts here to Bonaire to build our units, or the costs to ship completed units out worldwide.

Needless to say, we are exceptionally proud of the Pirate Lights Marine Security System. For the simplicity of the unit (no pricey internet or satellite systems required; no complicated parts) and the exceptionally reasonable price of the finished product, Pirate Lights have provided innumerable cruisers with an unparalleled sense of security and safety in these turbulent times and in oceans literally around the world. For those who took time to properly install, and to maintain their system, Pirate Lights has provided years of successful operation and peace of mind. We have always prided ourselves on exceptional customer service and have personally spent countless hours on the phone with customers to talk them through their installation and issues, even while cruising international waters full-time ourselves.

Thus, this is our official notice that we are closing down the Pirate Lights Shop. We thank all the customers who have literally made Pirate Lights a success simply via enthusiastic word of mouth. We have never advertised our product with any marketing finesse or diligence, and originally, I, (Jeff), had built the units for my wife’s peace of mind while undertaking our worldwide sailing adventure. But it is onward now to another era and another adventure in our lives.

During these continued turbulent and uncertain times, we wish you peace and faith in the greater good. May the Lord watch over and keep all of you sailors safe as you traverse the world’s oceans.

Dear Jeff,

Thank you for your help getting me back on track after my miscalculation installing my Pirate Lights. The replacement parts showed up spectacularly fast (I can’t even get Amazon to deliver that fast). It took about 10 min to replace the sensor I toasted and everything was online. Your suggestions using the diode and dedicated relay to integrate the spreader lights into the system worked perfectly. Your service far exceeded anything that would have been expected even if I wasn’t the one who created the problem in the first place! Please feel free to use any or part of my comments and/or pictures as you see fit. I am happy to tell anyone who will stand still long enough how much I like this product.

Review: I ran across “Pirate Lights” on You Tube and bought my set before I even bought my boat. My wife and I were planning on a circumnavigation and wanted some type of security system while at anchor. So often you find “marine” products that make you wonder if the manufacturer has ever seen a boat let alone spent any time on one. Pirate Lights are clearly made by cruisers for cruisers. Heavy duty, large, easily field serviceable components boiled down to only the simplest parts is a good start. If I can’t access, modify, or repair a system at sea, with tools on hand, it’s value to me plummets dramatically. I took the liberty of incorporating a pair of blinding lights and the spreader lights into the system at install. At night, when the system is tripped my boat lights up like the Bellagio. It’s shocking to me and that’s even when I’m expecting it to happen. It definitely makes my vessel a less desirable target and at the very least gives me a more defensible position in the unlikely event of unwanted guests.

Due to my own negligence I required a replacement part after I damaged a component during the install. I was prepared for the usual phone tree, canned hold music, and off shore call centers. My email was returned within 8 hours, within minutes I had a live consultation on the phone, and replacement parts waiting for me at the marina office 72 hours later (I’m pretty sure the consultation was on Saturday, not even positive how they did all that). 10 min later, the part was in, my mistake corrected and the system was operational.

As cruisers our boats are our homes. Your home needs to be not only your base but your most defensible position from adversity in all of its forms. This system helps me to create that secured position that I want and need when I’m in unfamiliar and remote surroundings.

You will get all the security of our trademark Pirate Lights system, less our ambient colored lighting feature. Nevertheless, The Parrot's blinding lumens and deafening alarms makes even the most stealthy intruder "fly the coop".

This was our BEST Christmas gift of all here at Pirate Lights. Coming from Marinette, Wisconsin, devoted daughter Kelley Lyn was so excited to give her father Peter the Gift of Security - Pirate Lights Marine Security System. She ordered both Pirate Lights and the new Parrot for Peter for his anticipated sailing on Lake Michigan pending his retirement this year. We received the most wonderful and heartwarming video of Peter opening his gifts and he was as giddy as a schoolboy! (We learned a new phrase "OH MYLANTA!" that we have copied and are using! ;-)) Kelley Lyn, thank you for trusting Pirate Lights for your beloved Dad's sailing security, and Peter, thank you for being over the moon with your new gift. We’re calling it ‘The Parrot’, cuz it makes a lot of noise and every Pirate needs one. And we did all the wiring so you don’t have to, which makes installation a breeze! You get the same peace of mind, less our trademark ambient colored lights.

But hey, don’t you worry Monkey. We’ll name our next revolutionary security device after YOU, another one of a Pirate’s best friends. We are currently working on implementing some of Captain Rick Moore of Sailing Sophisticated Lady’s thoughts on designing all the latest technologies into a cost effective system.”
