NLA's Holiday Safety Pledge Campaign.
MARLTON, N.J. â Nov. 28, 2022 â The National Limousine Association (NLA), the industry-leading non-profit organization responsible for and dedicated to representing the interests of the chauffeured transportation industry, today announces the launch of its Holiday Travel Promise safety pledge. Continuing a legacy of highlighting and promoting safety in the industry, the NLA strongly encourages all drivers to follow the pledge to ensure safe delivery of the most precious packages this holiday season.
âAs the voice of the industry for nearly four decades, we see it as our duty to lead the call for increased safety on our nationâs roadways this holiday season. Far too many accidents occur this time of year and overall traffic fatalities are on a startling 16-year high in the U.S.,â said Robert Alexander, President of the NLA. âThe Holiday Travel Promise demonstrates our associationâs commitment to strict protocol and the safety of all riders. We want to ensure everyone on the roads can spend the holiday season with their loved ones, without having to worry about safe, reliable transportation.â
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 42,915 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes last year, a 10.5% increase from the 38,824 fatalities in 2020 and the highest number since 2005.
The NLA invites all drivers in the ground transportation industry to join the Holiday Travel Promise safety pledge, adopting the strongly suggested practices in the associationâs Driver Duty of Care:
Drivers should be properly screened, licensed and trained, which includes the following:
· Criminal background and security check by a certified agency or equivalent
· Pre-hire drug testing and random testing program, when required by USDOT
· Driver training program that includes driver duties, customer service, safety and defensive driving skills
· Certified medical examination, as required by local, state and federal regulations
Ground transportation vehicles should be properly licensed, safe and commercially insured, which includes the following:
· Proper supervision, retraining and discipline when appropriate
· Commercial insurance with liability coverage, as required by local, state and federal regulations
· Proper licensing permits
· Proper modification certification (if applicable)
· Motor vehicle inspections, as required by local, state and federal regulations
· Pre-trip safety briefing â given verbally or by video, as per individual state regulations â that encourages passengers to fasten their seatbelts; in larger vehicles, briefings may also detail emergency exits and any applicable safety procedures
The NLA is committed to raising existing accepted standards in safety, reliability and service across the ground transportation industry. For more information about the association, please visit www.limo.org.
