Scared of mega ships? They are capacity designed and still rarely ever sail near capacity, even during high season.
Many have been expressing concern with how large the Icon of the Seas from Royal Caribbean International is and if there are simply “too many people” onboard. Well…here is a picture we took randomly and candidly this morning. 👀
We did not wait for people to clear out. We didn’t go super early. We simply were walking around after breakfast and thought it was a cool shot. Later, we realized it was an empty shot. 💁🏼♀️💁🏻♂️
Maximum capacity is 7600 and that would be with every single room (quad capacity and below) having the max number in each. We are sailing with all rooms booked, but with 5,253 passengers total.
Please note that any cruise ship sailing at total max capacity doesn’t happen often. For instance, even if every single room right now was max filled but ours…it still wouldn’t be “at capacity.” We are a party of two currently in a room that sleeps three.
In 24 hours now onboard Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship…our fears of the world’s largest cruise ship have been squashed. We’ve seen:
- No long lines for slides or food or drinks or theaters.
- No completely full areas of tables or pool chairs.
- No massive crowds anywhere.
- No waits for a single elevator.
Yes, the ship is very large, but that doesn’t mean it is crowded or overwhelming. There’s a lot to do and explore and experience and we are loving every single minute of it. 🚢
