Love being fully immersed in the beauty of Greater Zion’s red rocks? Hellhole Trail is a challenging out-and-back hike that takes you deep into towering red rock cliffs. Approximately 3.5 miles round-trip, this trail near Ivins earns its name from the striking “fire” red sandstone formations. The Vortex Trail - Greater Zion Trails
The Vortex Trail is a 2.3-mile, out-and-back trail near Gunlock, known for its stunning sandstone formation called The Vortex (or The Bowl). This moderately challenging route in Greater Zion is perfect for hiking and adventuring over slickrock, and is best in cooler temps or early morning starts. Also referred to as the Camelback Trail, it's a scenic adventure for visitors of all ages. Dogs are welcome but please keep them on leash. This trail was chosen by Utah Tech University’s Creative Studios as a video collaboration project with Greater Zion, giving students the chance to further their skills and education, preparing them for their futures.
Many Greater Zion hikes offer the feeling of sheer vertical amazement, surrounded by towering red cliffs and enveloped in the masterpiece created over countless years by nature’s handiwork. Padre Canyon is another hike that places you right in the center of Mother Nature's art gallery.
With the trailhead located at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre parking lot, this exciting hike begins its vertical ascent rather quickly as you make your way up the canyon. Rated as moderate-to-hard in difficulty, be prepared for loose rocks, stair-stepping, and minor scrambling as you navigate through large boulders and undulating slickrock terrain.
This out-and-back trail spans roughly 2.5 miles and features small caves and scenic stopping points to enjoy the view, looking back into the city of Ivins and up the stunning cliff walls towering above you. The effort is well worth it for the unique and rewarding views that await on this incredible Greater Zion trail adventure.
