If you’re visiting Montana this summer, make sure to find yourself some huckleberry treats before you leave! Just up the road from the cabin you can find a wide variety of huckleberry goodies at ! We highly recommend their huckleberry shakes and their huckleberry cheesecake 😍😋🥤💜

So how long will the heat last? Current forecast models show a high likelihood (70-90 percent chance) that the ongoing heat wave will continue through the end of July across western Montana and north central Idaho. Everyone is at risk from the dangers of heat, but children, the elderly and those who are pregnant or have chronic illnesses may be particularly sensitive. Never leave anyone alone in a closed car, make sure you drink plenty of water and limit exposure as much as possible. For further heat related information, visit weather.gov/heat.

With so much of the summer tourism in NW Montana revolving around Glacier National Park, we wanted to make a quick “PSA” about Glacier! No matter where you choose to stay during your visit to Glacier National Park, vehicle reservations and/or entrance tickets are now required for most park areas, and reservations often book out months in advance. For example, we wrote this post in mid May, and the next available reservations at the time were at the end of August! Some smaller areas of the park currently do not require vehicle reservations, however the regulations surrounding reservations and park tickets change every year and between seasons (i.e., since summer is the busiest season, it has the most regulations!).

All of this makes it *extremely* important to do your homework several months in advance before heading to Glacier, even if it is just for a day trip. We also highly recommend that you read up on how to be and , and how to interact with wildlife in a safe and respectful manner before your visit to our amazing state.

The link tree in our bio will take you to the Glacier National Park website where you can find all of the details you will need to plan your visit! For those interested in staying at Bison View Cabin during their visit, West Glacier and Two Medicine are ~ 2 and 3 hour drives from the cabin, respectively.

The Mission Valley has several healthy creeks, lakes, and rivers, and our family has enjoyed many years of excellent trout and bass fishing here! In this post we share a few of the nearby fishing spots we recommend to our guests. This is most definitely not an all-inclusive list—there are so many more fishing spots within a short drive of Bison View Cabin!

Please note that these areas are on the Flathead Indian Reservation and therefore anglers are required to have both state and tribal recreation permits. Visit the FWP & CSKT tribal regulations that are linked in our bio to learn more about local permitting systems and fishing laws.

Several of these places are also grizzly and black bear habitat! We ALWAYS recommend carrying bear spray and being when you are recreating in the Mission Valley.

Lastly, native fish such as the west slope cutthroat trout face ever increasing threats. If you come to the Mission Valley to fish, we kindly ask that you please do you part to keep these precious natural resources safe and handle fish appropriately (see for proper trout handling methods), follow local fishing limits and regulations, and pack out what you pack in.
