The Okavango Delta, Botswana (one of our favourite places!)

Each year, water from Angola flows into Botswana, flooding the Okavango Delta and creating one of the richest wildlife habitats in Africa. What was once dry becomes a maze of channels, lagoons, and small islands, and with it comes life elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, and hundreds of bird species.

This isn’t a typical safari. It’s quieter and slower. Days often start with a mokoro (dugout canoe) ride at sunrise, or a scenic flight over the wetlands. You can track wildlife by vehicle, but you’ll also spend time just listening because here, the stillness is part of the magic.

The lodges are beautifully remote, with just a handful of guests, great food, and genuine connection to the landscape. It’s the kind of trip that stays with you.

Best time to visit: June to October, when the delta is flooded and wildlife is most active.
