These curious manatees were checking out the clear kayak as I floated down Weeki Wachee river. This is an older clip taken years ago before Weeki Wachee got ridiculously overcrowded with kayakers. Fortunately, there's still a few places in Florida where you can go and see Manatees without crowds of people.

Boaters: Go Slow and Look Out Below!

Although safe boating week isn’t until next week – it’s never too early for a reminder on how to keep manatees safe while out on the water.

- Wear polarized glasses: Polarized lenses reduce glare, allowing you to see manatees and wildlife in the water better.

- Go slow and lookout below: Reduce your speed to increase your reaction time, and keep your eyes peeled for manatees that may be just below the surface.

- Designating a lookout: Designate a spotter to keep an eye out for what’s ahead – look for the circular manatee “footprint” on the water’s surface.

- Stash the Trash: Help keep wildlife safe and Florida beautiful by collecting any trash on the water and disposing of it in the proper receptacles.
