Be sure and stop at Welcome Center at Georgia I 95 exit 1 while heading north from Florida. Lots of good info, plenty space to walk the dog, and nice clean facilities. And be safe out there on the road.

As Hurricane Hermine makes her way toward us, it appears our Labor Day weekend will be ok after Friday. Meanwhile, local authorities have taken a very proactive stance to insure we are well informed, schools are closed, business as usual will continue after the weekend, and rain we have wished for all summer is now upon us. Stay safe if you are here and if not continue to plan visiting us over the weekend after tomorrow. Thank you for your support of Coast of Georgia.

Ernie Andrus, 92, has one more river to cross - and a birthday to celebrate - on his San Diego to St. Simons Island walk and run that he started in October 2013.
The World War II Navy vet and at least three dozen others covered the four-mile F. J. Torras Causeway to a marina just short of St. Simons...

93 yr old Ernie Andrus is reaching the last leg of his cross country walk in support of the last ship, LST 393, standing that helped win WWII. This Navy Veteran started in San Diego and is touching the sands of St Simons Island tomorrow 8/20/16 morning at the Old Coast Guard Station. Go to http://coast2coastruns.com/ for the whole story. We here on the Coast of Georgia are proud of this hero and look forward to celebrating with him tomorrow. , , , , , ,

Did you know that when you eat at CJ's you can ask your server for some pizza dough for the kids to play with while you wait for your food?! It's great entertainment for everyone😉 P.S. Don't forget that we're open for lunch every Fri-Sun until Labor Day!

I couldn’t help but be amused, if not downright insulted, at the recent article in the Tuesday, April 26, 2016 Brunswick News, regarding “Officials seek help promoting Isles’ African American past.” Not only has the African American heritage of our community been being promoted for the last 35 years through the studied diligence of a host of local tour companies and educated tour guides but those same companies have been bringing countless African American visitors to this area through motor coaches, trolley tours, and the selling of specific sites. All one has to do is stand in the middle of the village of St. Simons or walk through the Historic District of Jekyll Island in the Spring or Fall to learn this. Obviously, as has happened in the past, our CVB, DDA, or City and County officials have failed to tap into the already existing knowledge of this area from people who are boots on the ground, and have assumed nobody is paying attention to this already captivating part of our history. Our elected and appointed officials have suddenly realized “they” know best and somehow want to control the message. Might it be a little more effective if these same officials inquired or even paid just a little attention to what was already going on and ask for help from the local companies already spreading the word? The only thing I found even remotely correct in that article is yes, we do need to possibly educate the citizenry of Glynn of this extraordinary past. And, expound on it not only for the African American culture that is already coming to our area for this reason, but the countless foreign and new visitors that want to know this history. My suggestion is take a moment away from the conference room, take that time to get out into the community, talk to local businesses, local tour guides, and local tour companies, and learn about what is already going on.
