I was the subject of Mrs. Connelly’s photography class this morning. I was directed by a student to “smile supernaturally.” The students had some questions about the witch trials. I worked into the answer, “ They were Not witches.” Happy to take the phrase from Donna Amelia Vinson Seger.

Hamilton Hall
9 Chestnut Street
Salem, Massachusetts

A picturesque scene of Salem.

The Assembly Hall opened a week after Christmas in 1805 is Named in honor of Major General Alexander Hamilton. There are four original wood panels depicting festoons of cloth prominently displayed on the Chestnut Street side of the building. These were carved in the workshop of the architect and wood carver Samuel McIntire. An eagle is among the panels but the original eagle is now inside of the building and gilded and painted.

If you are in Salem this October and are thinking of traveling beyond Salem for more of the New England experience. Consider Woodman’s in historic Essex, Massachusetts. The woodman family came to Massachusetts in 1636. Started the restaurant by the picturesque Essex marsh land in 1914.
