Two different neighborhoods, two different takes on holiday decorating. No need for me to tell you which is which! Greenlawn Cemetery is merry and bright, while the historic district is more subdued and classic. The kid in me likes the bright lights, while the history lover enjoys the simple garland and wreaths.

I continue to find hidden gems in my own backyard. For all the times I walked my furry boy Rebel around Beverly near the middle school, I never realized it was the land where Salem Founder, Roger Conant, would build his home once he left Salem. Today was the first day we noticed this landmark. I love learning something new!

It's been a record year to date, and Saturday temps are expected to be 'summer-like' in the mid-70s. It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't visited Salem during our peak what it feels like. We are a city of about 40,000, already congested with a lack of parking for those who live here. Then add 100,000 people to the mix, many of whom are trying to drive and find parking. At times it feels like 100,000 are trying to fit into our pedestrian walking mall, which is literally shoulder to shoulder. While I never discourage visitors from coming, you need to know what you are in for if you do choose to experience Halloween weekend in Salem. It's crazy!

Starting Saturday the city's Enhanced Safety Zone ordinance kicks in and fines will be tripled for parking violations.
